I am going to upgrade the fans in my ecp4101 and need to know if this fan will work
Here is the link to the fan I am thinking of using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1683522603
I plan on replacing the four of them at the same time so people who has done this upgrade help me out
I have done the grille mod but one of the fans is needing to be replacing soon(bearing noise is starting)

Link no good mate.
I would use good quality fans of the same diameter, and where you can fit them, change to axial type blowers instead.

here is another fan (i have the bigger 120mm version in my media machine barely can hear it)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=35-106-160&Tpk=N82E16835106160
i hope one of these two fans will work(the one in the second link looks promising)
ps i love the 120mm version of this fan(super quiet) and moves a lot of air for its size(the 80mm version can't be any noisier as it has the same bearing tech)

Thermaltake isnt my favorite PC parts brand, id prefer to go with Antec, but in saying that their fans may be pretty simular. Just make sure they dont pull more current than what youre replacing!!
Is there any room for axial fans?

I would say so but I don't know of axel fans
Provide me a link for one that is the same size and I will look at it
The thermal take fan I have in the link I have the 120mm version in a media machine and it hasn't let me down yet
But that is why I posted on here is to get a opinion of others so I don't kill my projector by not getting the right fans and it overheat and take out the tubes or power supply

I just looked a axial fan(noisier then I need)
I may try the theramaltake fan and if it don't work out then I will use them in a pc case
(Ps I hate the spell check on my phone it messes up what I type sometimes)
I posted another link also for a different fan what do you think of it?
Both of these are quiet and have a good cfm rating

I say axial fans cause they blow more evenly from corner to corner, where as the normal ones just blow around the edges. Not noisier when pushing tge same amount of air, they are capable of moving loads more air and more evenly distributed.
They are used in air handlers for this very reason. Would be a good option if they can be had.

You should have mentioned the advantage earlier
Thanks case

Oh, but you didnt ask
Alot have speed controller pots on them too, usually all EC type AC motors, as almost all computer fans are.

I just looked at the fans on my extra 4500. All four fans have a corresponding little tiny circuit on the corner mount closest to the power leads -- I didn't look too close, but saw a little cap and perhaps a resistor. I'm guessing this is just to ease them along as they get up and running...not sure if this is of some benefit to the LVPS or not. If your has these, you might want to re-use those with the new ones.
If you have a way of measuring/benchmark sound or flow, don't forget to do so before you take out the old ones!
cheers,
Matt

Show a pic of this device!! Could be to reduce speed and to prevent or reduce ripple being introduced to the 12v supply.
Being that they are an AC device they will cause all kinds of strange effects to voltage.

I'd like to do this with my ECP as well... I replaced two of the four fans on the one side. Didn't seem to make it any quieter. Although I may have not have gotten quiet fans hmm.

Huh??!!
A fan could use either an AC or a DC motor.
Fans in electronic equipment are most often run off low-voltage DC rather than line voltage.
A brushless DC motor (in this case) should be relatively "clean" since the commutator&brushes have been eliminated.
A photo of other side of that circuit board would be nice, as it would show how that cap & resister are wired in the circuit.
Regards

They are EC motors, which are electronically commutated AC motors. The fact the run on a DC supply is somewhat irrelevant, they are essentially an AC motor, DC has no rotating magnetic field.
They are not "clean" as you put it because of the switching electronic commutation.

I see my thread has grown
Ok here is the scoop
The little curcit board in the picture is a noise filter(I have the service manual in hard copy thanks to curt along with more) I will transfer that to the new fans(it prevents the fans from making electronic noise in the video circuitry)
So far I installed spacers on the fans(marginal improvement)
The biggest difference was removing the grilles(keep the small kids away from the set if it is on the floor or a table)
I am still on the fence as to which fan to get I am leaning toward the theramaltake but I pull a axiel fan from a dead computer power supply just need to bench test and hear how loud it is before I pull the sides off my Ecp to see if it makes a difference (not sure if it will)
I like the thermaltake fan as it has a lower db rating(which is good) has a good cfm for the rpm rating but I don't know the static pressure yet
The fans that are in my Ecp now are the peewee boxer fans(I will posts the numbers on the fan tomorrow)
It is a 12 volt dc fan(not ac)
But since I did the grille removal I can be within three feet of the set and just hear air moving(great as my set is just behind my couch
Guys look at the two fans in the links I posted and tell me which one you would go with
I have a thermaltake fan(its a120 mm) in my media pc in my bedroom and can barely hear it(its 12dbvsthe 90 mm at 19 db)
I know one thing I will be adding is handles to make it easier to move this big beast(after I do the fan upgrade)
One thing I have noticed is after I removed the grilles on the fans is the set feels cooler(top would be warm after a few hours of use) now it is as cool as it is when the set is off(good for the tubes as they will be cooler)
I watched life of pi on it lately and I was impressed (it does great for a es focus set)

When choosing fans also look at the db rating the lower the number the quieter the fan is at the given rpm
