|
I just picked up a runco DTV-991 ultra And a runco IDP-980 super II projector from a shop in Penn. These were take downs from customer media rooms. Tubes are in good shape and the runco 980 works fine but the 991 needs help. The 991 power turns on but the and all fans start turning but no light from the faces of the tubes. The filaments are lit from the rear on the crt's. I do not here the faint normal crackle of the High voltage circuit on the set. What parts on the high voltage board should I check. Could it be the high voltage transformer? I would love to get this projector running and make it the cornerstone of my media room. Another question is about the 991 ultra, I though that these were all LC projectors but my 991 ultra seems to be a ac projector? Can anyone in Runco/NEC land tell me if some 991 ultras were in fact AC coupled machines. I know it is AC because it has it has the HD-8 lens. I am real CRT nut with many projectors including two sony- 1272, a sony D50, A NEC pg9 plain, three NEC/GE dp-3000's and a CRT broken dwin HD-500 which I think that I am going to part out. Any help would be depreciated!!

DTV-991 ultra really should be equal to an XG110 AC, with HD8 lens instead of HD145 On the other hand the IDP-980 super II should be a variant of the 9PG xtra (with HD145 lens), I would be surprised if the 991 would throw a better picture (because of the lenses) but if you could put the HD145s on the XG that would be really better. Isn't the XG throwing an error code?

It's next to the push buttons at the back of the machine.

Check to see if there is any flicker out of the tubes at all. If you hear the HV, it's probably OK, You might have a bad system board. I should have those, or might be able to repair yours.

It might be the system board as the remote flicks the leds at the back of set but I can not get the remote to change input or answer any commands

Yep. If you leave the set turned on, you might get a flicker out of the tubes every minute or two as the system board locks on. That will indicate that your deflection and HV sections are OK, and it's the system board. Let me know if you want to send it in.

All DTV991 models are AC, as Gabór said the Ultra has HD-8 lenses which are inferior to the HD-145 NEC fitted to most XGs. The other option they fitted were HD-144, which the RUNCO DTV991 plain has got.

Just did a little more work runco DTV-991 ultra. It is not fully functional but I have gotten the projector to display the cross hair pattern, and have been able to get the RGB crt shut off controls to work, but unable to get any other controls to work. I guess Curt may be right that the system board may be messed up! I am just wondering if it needs just the GRD file reloaded. It seems that most of the other boards are at least working. Bob

Id say any XG110 should do it, but i would like confirmation first, i dont know what RUNCO may have added.
Mine is not an ULTRA.

The PC Control program works just fine on Windows XP too (must be a 32bit OS). I would also think that any of the XG ..0 GRD should do (I once loaded 9PG xtra eeprom on my 6PGxtra and worked just about the same), but before you do anything save your current eeprom first, then there will be no problem, you don't have much to loose anyway.

You can try it, but I've had lots of issues with USB to serial converters, at least the older ones. That's why I have an old Dell XP laptop, just for stuff with 9 pin serial control. I've also got 4 backup units in case the one dies.
