I blew a woofer, yeah I know, It was weak OK ? Only the strong survive. Anyway I bought a couple new woofers and I have to break them in. I have always just played speakers at 1/4 volume for about 8 hours and then went to town on them. So what is the proper way to break in a speaker and how do I know if it is really broke in ? Dont judge me.

Or just listen to it. It'll break in and sound better as you use it.

+1, I agree, why not just use it? Just don't be harsh on it right away, give it some time with some music of your taste and you'll be fine
I am curious, what woofer did you blow out? Home theater sub/woofer in floor speaker/car subwoofer and what brand was it? What amp was hooked to it?
Saying it was weak is an excuse for "Damn that was loud as F**K!! "

It was my fault, I played it way to loud for way too long and I wasnt paying attention (for reasons I wont go into) when I finally looked over I saw the light on the EQ showing it was close to clipping and I was probably putting about 200 watts to it. Normally I know better, I was just enjoying the album more than usual. Nobody home, kicked back, eyes closed, just rockin. You know how it goes. Music has just been sounding better these last couple months for some reason, more relaxed I think. In my defense Dark Side Of The Moon begs to be played Very loud and its very hard to turn it down once you turn it up.

I just realized I didnt anwser your question. The Speakers are homemade sort of, Infinity cabinets (reenforced and fiber fill added) With a Klipsch 15 inch woofer and 2 AR mids and off brand ribbon tweeters. They actually sounded pretty good at about 100 watts. But could handle more but apparently not for very long. The amp was a Yamaha M85 running in stereo at 8 ohms.

It's typically not the watts but the distortion from overdriving an amp that destroys speakers. It's easier to wreck speakers with a 10W amp than a 500W amp.
It's also *really* surprising to blow a woofer instead of a fragile tweeter. Normally the tweeter pops first since the wiring is so thin. I've never heard of anyone blowing a woofer but not the tweeter first.

A general rule of thumb is that tweeters blow due to amp clipping (too little power to the speakers), whereas woofers blow due to too much power. Jeff, if you carefully cut the cone and voice coil out of the woofer and post a pix of the voice coil, I can tell you why it blew.

i learned that the hard way infinity speakers are power hungry speakers but i love them (i guess that explains why i have four sets )
i had my rs-5's left tweeter blown(for reasons i can't tell) one day it just let out a small noise then nothing(yet the fuse was good)now i am trying to find a working factory replacement(which is proofing harder then i thought)
i had to get a set from parts express till i can find a oem replacement(which sucks as i can't use the grilles now)
