Guys, roughly in the last week of April I'll be driving from Vancouver to San Diego and back with stops in San Fran and LA to pick up projectors.
I figure I'll be in San Diego on the 29th or 30th of April. I might swing over to Tim's in Scottsdale, but I'm not sure if I will have the time this trip. So Far I've got about 6 stops regarding buying sets and parts.
If you're interested in getting together, post here, and maybe we can get a few people to meet for dinner or ? I'll post my itinerary once I know when I'm back from up North here in BC to do a week's installation.

Curt,
Let me know,
I could host a group of CRT folks at my new place in Thousand Oaks (20 minutes north of LA). I have a big place that is ideal for hosting. I just put up my PG10 that I got from Tinman I also have 3 DWIN 700s that I may be interested in trading for ?
Just a thought.

Yes that was me The 10PG throws a wonderful picture. I have it ceiling mounted and it is far from dialed in. I have it working well but I need someone to come in and calibrate it so that I am maximizing the quality. TINMAN took really good care of this beast (as you can imagine) and I got a lot of spare parts with it including new tubes.

I don't even want to know how you got that monster up on the ceiling.
Time permitting, I may calibrate it for you, but no promises. I am staying pretty busy lately.
If it tells you anything, since you got it from me I have put a total of 36 hours on the digital.
(Oooo..... nice avatar!)

Marc,
It took four guys but it is there and working well! I think I messed up a little on the distance and it may be slightly too far back but it is close. I am putting about 16 hours a week on it Keep me posted. You should come by and see it at the very least.

Aren't you glad it still had the coffin handles on the sides!
Yeah, at the very least I'll have to check out the place and the setup. Or maybe if you do end up hosting a meet.

God, I hope so...
On second thought.... probably not. This is NOT a girl hobby. Sadly.
DAMMIT!
That's ONE of the reasons I'm getting my pilot's license... Chick dig Airplanes! (I hope)

Jay,
What kind of PJ did you have before the 10PG? I had a Marquee 8500 before getting a 10PG and I'm just curious about your take on the picture quality so far if you have comparisons. Like you I haven't exactly calibrated it to 100% perfection but so far the color (after calibration with Color HFCR) is excellent with the 10PG in comparison to the M8500. I can easily see scan lines at 1080i but I'm not sure I'm seeing a any drastic improvements over the 8500 other than color. Just curious.

Just to answer one question... COLOR reproduction accuracy is the NEC's strong point. They are corrected for the SMPTE-C gamut. That's where the colored lenses or C elements come into play. When I used to calibrate them using my Philips pro calibrator, I could get them bang on.
One thing I did notice with the 10PG is that I really didn't need a gamma board any more. There was just more depth and detail that an 8" set didn't quite have. But some of that was due to the 10PG being an LC set. Properly set up, the image just sucks you in.
I miss it, but family considerations and time have made the switch to a (pretty damn nice) digital a practical necessity.

John,
I was using a DWIN 700 for the past few years. I love it but I wanted to get a bigger picture. I was at 100". That is the main reason I jumped up to the 10PG. Now I have a 9 foot wide screen and still plenty of punch. But I am far from calibrated so other than that its too soon to tell on picture quality. I am running 1080i btw. It looks surprisingly good now but I know it can be a lot better. I am sure TINMAN will cringe when he sees my setting

I remember the DWIN 700's. Used to look at them at the local AV high end store. Seems most of those places are long gone.
Man..... CRT projection and Electrostatic speakers driven by huge MAC amps....
As a teen I used to mast.... errr.... SHOP at those places.... yeah.... I'd shop with my EYES. Never thought I'd own CRT projectors.... much less 8 of them.
The PG10 was my last hoorah in a long journey.
Jay, I doubt I'd cringe at your setup. You HAD projectors before, so it's probably already quite good.

Hey, stop bogarting my thread! I'm heading to Ca to look for bitches and hos. Problem is, with my luck I'll find a stray female dog and a garden tool.

Well, if you stop by my place and have time for lunch, we can run down to the beach to grab a bite. Might get lucky, it's getting warmer out.

I am sure that if you swing by Jay's house and promise to set up his pj that he might be able to find a female or two for you to look at.

I figure I'll be in San Diego on the 29th or 30th of April.
If you're interested in getting together, post here, and maybe we can get a few people to meet for dinner |
Definitely post your SD schedule when you know the details.
I've been spending about half of my time in SD so far this year. Just hotel rooms and restaurants, but LMK when you're in the area and I'll buy you dinner... or better yet, my corporate card will buy your dinner.
