Never thought I would have this issue, mainly because up until last night I haven't had this issue. I 've been playing the new SimCity game that just came out on my NEC XG and I noticed last night when I turned the PC off and the screen went blue like it does when the VP has no signal, I noticed little round circles across the bottom of my screen. I went ahead and looked into the tube lenses and sure enough, the green and blue tube now show wear from the damned menu pattern on SimCity, they look like little shadows because its pretty light.

I've logged about 30 hours on the game with the XG and I see this. Is this normal? My settings for brightness and contrast are around the mid 60s, never above since thats too much for my liking anyway.

I know I can't do anything about it now, but I'm just curious on the time table it takes for this to happen to the tubes. I think now I have a reason to actually buy the damn bulb for my sony pearl. i'd rather waste that out on a game than my precious XG tubes Sad

Refer to my old thread, CRT sucks for gaming!!!

I was not a happy camper.

Different time in my life - I actually had time to play games back then. Now, I'm lucky if I watch a movie once a week, let alone spend hours playing games.

My D50 is crispy so I don't care about burn in. We must have played GTA IV for a hundred hours on that. I don't remember any 'more' patterns burnt into the tubes. So maybe a toasty projector is the way to go if you're worried about burn in?

A couple thousand hours of gaming onto my new tubes 9PG and there still isnt even a wear pattern on the green that is visible.

The XG has rolled up about 1,000 hrs of gaming, no burns from that. Wouldnt matter if it did though, im running the 16:9 and 2.35:1 screens inside the 5:4 screen that the games are running on, so youll never see static wear on a movie unless its a 4:3. Gotta get the burn in to see it first i spose. Laughing

Good thing you mentioned GTA IV AR, because I as well have logged more time into it than I have in my real car Razz I play it all the time on the 460 with the XG, never ever had a single bit of an issue.

Could it be because its coming from a PC signal? I don't know how that would make a difference, but games I play on the 360 dont do this. This is the first time I have gamed with a PC on the XG and well this is the result...

Anyone that thinks this wont happen to them, I would be careful where you step with that one, cause a rake might just fly up and hit you square in the face Razz I myself never thought I would have this issue. Lesson learned!

Ill just have to get the digi going again, and play my games in lowly digital 1080p Sad At least if that develops image persistance I could care less. Very Happy

As for tubes... Well if I had a G90, I would keep the XG for gaming, waste out the tubes I have then probably get rid of the whole machine if it becomes unbearable to view. For now though, its the sweetest picture quality I have seen so it must be preserved until Curt finds my ch33p G90 Razz

Lucky bastage with your unburned tubes Razz I have my old set but as said in previous post, the PQ is perfect (or at least rather close) on the XG so Im happy just using it for the 360 and video only.

Thats what I use, my video chain is pretty much source -> video processor -> HDMI out -> HD Fury Gamer -> VGA to RGB cable -> projector

Works great this way, and I'm sure its not the reason this happened. I don't know why the PC signal burned the tubes & not any other source I've used.

I am wondering, does anyone know off hand if the DVDO VP30 has an oribit function? So I can at least play the game until I get the bulb here ?? Rolling Eyes

Its got nothing to do with your signal path, its cause youre displaying bright static images for extended periods of time.

Im suprised you cant dim those items abit or at least change what they are made up from since they are static images.

Another thing that may help in my instance is the huge scanlines of 240p, the picture moving mode on the XG may be helping out by moving the lines to the unused lines every few minutes. That doesnt explain why the 9PG is still unworn though.

MOst if not all XGs have an image orbiting function in the menu somewhere. I think it's called phosphor saver. Turn that on.

May not be as effective on high resolutions though Curt.

It should have, since my NEC is older than yours. On my machine it is ->Adjust->Option->2nd page
