Hi,
I just picked up a free Sony G70 that was posted over at the AVS forum. I pulled the lenses off to have a look at the tubes. Hour meter says 5100 hrs. (Tube wear) the Green is about a 7. Red and Blue around 8. I was told that it was set by John Gannon. After having a Sony 1252 for 10 years, I feel very confident moving through the set up menu. Is there anything I need to know to get the best performance/reliability out of the Sony?

Thanks,
Dan

I loved my G70, A Moome board and Oppo BD made a big difference. Other than that just enjoy it. I forgot to mention that Craig Rounds dialed it in now THAT WAS AN UPGRADE !

Congrats Das! you're one step away from a G90 Mr. Green If you dont have a video processor, I recommend getting one. They make things a lot easier when dealing with input sources and PJ resolution. Its pretty much like the back input panel of a TV, and its what I use to switch between sources without having to resetup each source. A must have for any good CRT (of which the G70 certainly qualifies Smile )

Again Congrats, and welcome to the world of EM focused tubes and razor sharp PQ Very Happy If the G70 looks anything like my XG did when watching a bugs life the other night, you are in for a REAL treat. Smile

Jeremy112,
Thanks! I have a Nec xg 135 hanging on the ceiling now that I retubed and converted to a LC unit. I use a lumagen HDP/DVI to do 1080P. The Sony seems to be more plug and play compared to the NEC. I know that sounds crazy. With a Moome HDMI input card, an hour of my time, the Sony throws one hell of picture Mr. Green

No no, actually it sounds very sensible. My XG throws a huge fit if I use the component DVI card, and of course it has to have just the right signal being sent to it or the picture wont cooperate during setup. If you can get past that on an XG, then its picture is worth every bit of effort.

No arguments that the sony is easier to use. I setup a 1272Q a few years ago for a friend, took far less time to set that one up than the XG did at first. You seem to get the hang of it after a few setups though Smile

If you think the G70 throws a nice image, the G90 would take you into the nearest galaxy, which I think is canis major.. In all seriousness, congrats and enjoy the hell out of that projector Smile Don't let the XG go to waste! It can be used as a flood light still, or a large weight to hold down something you're working on Mr. Green
