Hey guys,

I've had this problem for over a year and I let it go because it wasn't as noticable watching video as it is playing video games (especially the new SimCity Smile ). The issue is after the PJ warms up, the picture "snaps", or I should say I hear a HV arc and the picture kind of snaps as a result. not a major visual distortion, but enough that the picture widens about 2 inches horizontally then goes to normal right after the arc.

What HV hardware is misbehaving? I replaced the tubes a couple years ago, but I can't honestly say this problem was happening a couple years ago. I never removed any of the HV wires from the set except the ones attached to the tubes when I replaced them with new ones.

Like I said, nothing major.., but would like to get it taken care of before it becomes a problem (or very very annoying)

Jeremy

Anything around the HV leads, splitter. etc.

Open the side, take off the side panel where the HV splitter is, flip down the deflection board, and run it that way. Every time you get an arc, you risk nuking a board, so catch it.. QUICKLY.

lmao, thanks for the advice Curt Wink. I assume I will be looking for arcing in the dark while its opened? If I do see where its happening, do I clean up whatevers arcing and silicone? Never had this issue before, and before it does kill my projector, like you said, I should really fix it Razz

Would that have anything to do with the convergence being off slightly after power up? That usually happens as well after the machine has been off overnight. I use it everyday so it gets rather irritating waiting 2 hours for it to be warm enough that I can re-adjust the convergence.

If youre gonna use silicone, use no automotive sh*t cause its conductive. Did you put the straps back on the tubes when you swapped them?

Clean any black sh*t off with isopropyl alcohol and clean the splitter and HV transformer.

Not cause i think itll fix it, but if youre going to run it with the covers off itd be nice to have it looking presentable... Laughing

I don't think the convergence drift has anything to do with the arcing. I would wipe down all leads and connectors with isopropyl alcohol, take the HV connectors off the HV splitter and wipe everything down. if you can hear the arc, then you should be able to see it as well. Keep in mind that if you see it out of the corner of your eye, that won't help, as your brain will trick you as to what it's coming from. Been there, done that.

Aside from the evident fact I replaced the tubes, they are 100% setup as stock. I always make sure to put things back the way manufacturers indended Thumbs Up

And I don't think I'd run it with the covers off any longer than needed to fix it lol, besides, whats so ugly about the innards of the XG? All that shiny aluminum when you first take the cover off, ahhhh Smile

Gotcha Curt Thumbs Up , just as a side note, the PJ yet again drifted, the blue ALWAYS seems to go up or down about 1/4 of an inch from where it should be (either above or below the red & green), and the red seems to shift to the left or right, green doesn't seem to move simply because it is lined up with the blue when I mute the red tube., but it will be off as far as above or below the convergence center, so I usually have to do adjustments (and for the life of me my brain can't think of the damn word right now)

Anyway, I think I will go ahead and get those contacts cleaned up, maybe route the air hose into the basement so I can blow it out while I'm at it. I never did that when I retubed it, I was just happy to have unworn tubes when they got here Mr. Green

I will post a follow up once I have done as you suggested Curt, hopefully some cleaning is all she needs Smile

Case, maybe you should come on over across the pond to detail my XG Thumbs Up Mr. Green

No worries mate, do you have a pressure washer there or do you want to take it through the car wash? I usually use a large Winterhalter comercial dish washer for board cleaning, good as new in 30 seconds.
