Someone in my area is selling a Barco 1209 (15k hours on the chassis, replaced tubes) for a little over $500. Good deal or not? Granted, I haven't seen the tubes in person, so I know that would swing the deal drastically in one way or another. I was thinking of picking it up to hold onto and use when my Marquee dies at some point in the future, but I'm on the fence.

The tubes are everything, if they have significant wear I wouldn't bother with that. If you have a marquee 8500, and the barco have good tubes then it could be an upgrade over the marquee, but if you have a 9500, then it wouldn't be any better, however you can reuse the tubes. If a barco fail it is usually more expensive to repair than a marquee, so from that point it wouldn't be a good investment.

What gjaky said, but I'll disagree that BArcos are any more expensive to repair than MArquees. There seem to be about equal amount of sets out there, and like the Marquee, lots of boards can be interchanged (or I can repair them).
Do check the tubes, as if they are worn, it's not worth $500.

But if the quad goes out in a barco it is more expensive than any other marquee board.

No it's not! The MArquee HVPS is more than a quad.

Good to know, it was a long time when I had a Marquee, and never had a barco
