For projection CRT how do you position/use the Spyder sensor?

I've read posts that take some measurements facing the screen, some up close facing the lenes, and others far away at the screen facing the lenes.

And what about the honeycomb baffle, On or Off?

What is the best practice to get accurate and consistent readings for this consummer grade colorimeter. I have an 8" LC machine and am playing around with the HCFR software currently.

I pointed it at the screen and filter off

Ok, works now.

I needed to place it ~10 inches away facing the screen, baffle was on.

I was further away on my initial try.

you will be amazed how well that thing works, I always took all the devices off and put it pointing at the screen about 3 inches out, you want it reading off the screen because it will play a roll in the greyscale, the Draper M1300 I like is colder than others for example

That is interesting, because I got same readings when colorimeter was faced to pj and to my M1300. After that I have used colorimeter facing pj, because that way it measure faster lower end readings.

Three inches out? Gary, what is the angle of the detector to the screen's plane? I would think that if it were that close it would tend to obscure light from the projector. Where are you folks placing the detector (x,y)?

And you tend to find the M1300 colder in tone? I had not noticed that. I am use to identifying cold/warm-toned b&w images and never really noticed the screen in and of itself.

Hi There,

It depends on the software that you are using and what that is set to. The Spyder has a variety of applications and as such you also need to tell it what mode to use.

CalMan has a reflective front projector CRT mode, where the spyder is aimed at the screen (45 degrees to the vertical) with the baffle off.

I'm not sure about the settings for the french prog as i've not yet managed to match my CalMan readings which i trust, and hence have not found the correct method to use it.

Technicaly the baffle was to correct blue for LCD useage (IIRC), but due to software developments it is used for direct view CRT as well.

It is vital for correct grey scale to make sure the software and spyder are both set correctly !

Lee

How do you face it to the three tubes simutaneously? Or you just mount it near the screen side?

I hang it in the middle of the screen facing toward projector, using that lcd-panel mount and cord. That is one reason why I prefer using that method, it is faster than using tripod...

Of cource you have to test that your screen doesn't chance color temperature before using that method.

Pull down screen's handle is also good place hanging Spyder2 when measuring facing toward projector.
I don't use baffle in CRT measurements.
