OK, so I sold a minty Ultra into Northern California about a year ago. Worked fine, etc. Ceiling mounted. About 6 weeks ago, the customer emails and says that his test patterns look weird, he's lost the green. Then he corrects himself, no, it's not gone completely, it's like a negative image. I can't remember if he said that the overall picture was off as well, but the test patterns for sure. For some reason I think initially I thought everything on the green was negative, so I sent down a neck board. Nope, same issue.
I sent him a VIM and the CLM, both out of an Ultra, and he emails and says that now the green is OK, but he's got loss of geometry control. I tell him to send both CLMs up.
So he does. Indeed, the video image is fine, but the test pattern is purple, and EVERY green menu is very dim and inverted!
ie the background of any green menu is green, while the writing is black. The crosshatch test pattern has a green background, and the lines are black.
Ive intitialized the board, and swapped DPM, taken off the astig board, and swapped and cleaned all socketed chips. Nada.
Now, does anyone with Marquee component experience know which chip creates the on screen test patterns?
I sent him a CLM with V 4.2 firmware, his had 4.5, so worst case I'll swap CLMs and chips again to get him running. Worst worst case, I'll send down an AVIA disc for the test patterns , but this should be fixable.
Weird, two strange CLM issues within 2 weeks.

U106 I think. we talk about it affecting the black level in the Marquee thread . I have a feeling it is also the issue I have where the black background for my menu screens are not there but clear. Sounds like his is doing a similar thing.
Aslo look at U89 that sends a shadow,Transp, and inverse signal to U106. it might one of those or what I suspect recently after thinking about my own issue and the ones your having is the Clock If the clock is not accurate it could cause lots of strange things I would suspect.
I never really took out my CLM to figure out why the menus are transparent.

Why bother when there are three CLM's for sale here for only $50.00 each: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=373112#373112
The pattern generator on the CLM is a complex array of several chips and not all of them are in the same location. it's a difficult circuit to troubleshoot. That problem to me is not worth the time to run down, and that maybe because I have so many boards here to work with.

So far all I've done is gotten the chips transferred over to another CLM, and am now attacking weird Marquee CLM problem #1, the one with the intermittent IR problem.
Mike, you're right, it's not worth repairing the boards, but I'm sadomasochistic that way, I absolutely NEED to find out what's wrong with stuff. Heck, I cringed when I threw out a Marquee focus board the other day, and I've got 40 in a box.

Yeah I'm the same way. it's hard for me to put the soldering iron down.
Give me a few minutes to pull the tech data on it and I'll get right back to you in a few.

The pattern generator on the CLM involves at least 5 chips.
U106 is the main processor, with U97 and U98 being static ram.
Timings and address is generated by U100
The registry is U89. edited
I could fax to actual data to you on this.

I've got the schematic Mike. Let me see what Metal desoldering tips I have. I may need to order something before I can go nuts with it...

I edited my previous post. The registry is 89. It's right next to U106.
The problem is usually U100 or its contacts.
The other thing that causes that same problem is fine traces on the bottom of the board corroded away.

OK, I'll need to get a SMT tip for my Metcal soldering iron. I did try and resolder the leads, but that wasn't it.
