This is my first post on this, or any other, forum. I apologize in advance for any misuse of technical terms as I am an admitted newbie to the inner workings of my projector. One of my video neck boards failed on me about a week ago, and I thought since I'm searching for a replacement I might as well try to fix an ongoing problem I've been having with my PJ.

I have a Marquee 9000 that I bought 6 or 7 years ago. There has always been something on the raster that I don't think should be there. I have attached pictures that I took of all three tubes, with the projector on and absolutely nothing else attached to the PJ. The differences seen on the rasters can been seen on the screen during the playing of movies, although only during dark scenes. In addition, I don't think I am getting a true black out of my PJ. I don't know if the two problems are related. I don't have any spare circuit boards or parts to swap in.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

THis could be tube wear, but that type of wear that far into the raster would be really unusual, unless the set came out of some sort of simulator. Or, you could try using the left and right blanking controls to see if you can affect what actually looks more like image wraparound. Here's the thing: The 9000 is now considered a really old set, approaching 20 years or so. I've got a few parts left that you could have for cheap, but what I'd really recommend is that you look for an 8500 set for cheap that works, but has worn tubes. It's pretty easy to swap your tubes and tube mounting hardware into the 8500, as the chassis physically are identical (save for the top and bottom mounting plates that you'd need to swap over. An hour and you're done.

REason being is that the 8500 is a newer, more reliable set, and as long as your tubes aren't worn, you'll have a far better running and performing set. I've got a local customer that's doing that with me this weekend, and I'l charging him $1000 including a complete alignment and reworked set. You should be able to find a complete chassis for $250ish, somewhere hopefully within driving distance.

Otherwise, PM me, and I can see what parts I have. I know I have H boards, V boards, convergence and astig boards, and probably a CLM and VIM as well.

Guys

The early 9000s exhibited this, some pulses in the VIM or neckboards messing with the black level. If a newer VIM doesn't fix it then moving the tubes into a newer chassis will.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I would suspect a faulty VIM over the VNBs only because all three rasters are doing exactly the same thing. I'll replace the faulty VNB to at least allow me to use the PJ, the image was very watchable. I'll also try replacing the VIM as Tim suggested to get rid of the problem on my rasters. I will update the results later.

Hi Curt,

I tried to PM you but I couldn't because I don't have the minimum 5 posts yet. If you would like to PM me I would like to get a VNB and a VIM off of you.

Post two more times in the 'post testing area' of the forum, then you can write PMs.

I realized that I should be getting a complete 9000 this weekend, that should work save for the HVPS. I'll test it before I swap his tubes into the 8500 chassis, but that should make all of the 9000 parts available. ALl I might keep is the LVPS, I don't need anything else out of the set, so it's yours for a few scheckels plus shipping, as much or as little as you want for spare parts.
