Right now all I've been using is a Metal soldering iron.
After seeing how much money I'd make (read: NOT make) after dishing out $2K for a reflow machine, and seeing prices of flatscreens and laptops drop to the point where I can't sell a good working Win 7 machine for $200 on CL, I decided to pass on getting the reflow machine, and am sticking to SMT chip removal with the Metcal.

Which Metcal? I have one also and was thinking about buying the chip adapters. Are you re-attaching with paste or rosin core? Do you have a heat gun? Wanna see somthing neat? If you have low temp paste, intensionally leave a SMT device like a cap or resistor crooked on it's pads with paste under it. Heat it with the heat gun. When the paste begins to look like molten solder, the device will self align on it's pads. Freaky to watch.

I have the Tweezer iron too, great for removing SMD caps.
No issues so far, I did have to buy a new Iron wand tho. They wear out after lots and lots of use.

I wish Aoyue had the wide tweezer ends to make dip14 etc removal a breeze. All I can find a adapters the screw down at the moment. Still searching though.
I also want to get the Aoyue de-solder set.

You wouldn't have what you have if the "geeks" didn't do it for you. 
I just replaced a 44 pin SMD device using the hand soldering (drag) instructions learned on line. It looks like it came out of a machine. Meesa happy, worked like a charm.
