This is a really nice TV any mods out there? I am willing to bet this thing can do some high def. It is a super nice unit. Only used ever so often since it was in a basement storage since 2004. Any mods available?

User manual here:
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KP53V85.PDF

I don't see anything there to indicate it can do high def one way or the other. I suspect it's not just from the way they interchange their component terminology that it isn't high def.

Sony would have put HD or something of relation (like my sony CRT RPTV model: KP-53HW40 (where H is high def, and W is widescreen)

Too bad, but if it still has a good pic, it would be great for retro gaming Very Happy

Sony did have a couple of 4:3 sets that were HD-capable - my buddy had one before he upgraded to a Mits 65 - but they all had DVI inputs on them.

I would bet money that this set is 480p max.

That's what I was thinking too.

edit: and to add, it may only do that internally

Since the TV isn't high def neither of these will help you.

The best 'mod' you can do is clean the inside and mask off any front panel LEDs that may be washing out the picture from inside.
