Scored a pretty well kept 9500ultra on ebay few hours ago.
it ended at only little over 300€

Hi,
Last year I bought a lot of stuff (boards, tubes etc.) from him and picked it up at his home. There I saw this PJ in action and the picture quality was excellent. At that time he asked about 1200€ for it. So:

thank you - makes me feel even better about this deal !
this is my very first 9" and marquee ever...so i am very curious and may need some advice.
my crt career so far:
sony vph1272, worked fine, sold after a week and got out triple the money i've spent
barco graphics 808, bought expensive with pretty bad green, died few days later... maybe not worth fixing
nec xg135, bought really cheap, green not that good but will still last some time, stored
barco graphics 808, bought supercheap as dead, tubes are exellent and up and working with weird controller problem
retrographics 801s, bought more or less for fun and parts - what a lemon !
so i hope i will get many happy hours out of the marquee and maybe get rid of all the rest and all the parts i have accumulated.
still trying to promise to myself, that this finally is the last crt i have bought...but they are so addictive !

Just one thing:
I saw his PJ up for auction several times. First he tried with starting bids which were too high. Later he tried with lower bids and ended up with starting at 1€ (like this time). After the auction ended (I think it was at 700-800€ but I might be wrong) he obviously didn't sell it anyway. I just hope You'll get it for Your final bid...

yeah...i guess this time he was pushing it from a different account with 0 feedback, but other bidders also kicked in at around 300€...
i am alright with that, i just report people to ebay who are constantly pushing even when there are no other bidders involved !

That's a good score  It looks like the projector was well setup based on the phosphor pattern. Seems that the tubes will be totally usable if the projector was not plugged in for too many hours...

I keep hearing this argument. Does leaving a PJ plugged in really hurt the emissions of tubes?

Hi,
I think that this depends on the PJ model. If the power supply will always feed power to the filaments (maybe at a reduced voltage during standby/shutoff) it surely will cause wear on the cathode of each tube. Worn cathodes will result in less contrast, poor focus and earlier blooming.
Keeping the filaments under power was often used as a method to allow for short startup sequences.

The funny thing is when I had my Marquee 7500 I measured the startup time from switching on to throwing a picture and found that the Marquee isn't quickier than the NEC. This preheating stuff was the only thing what I really hated in the Marquee.

Well one good thing, when doing my Calibrations the past week i had to lower Drive a lot for Blue and G2's are in 50-60 range
for all tubes. I'll make sure I unplug them from now on. I need to use the extra Wall switch for that.

3.89 volts in standby. I always check new Marquees in the door before even powering up. If it's over 3.9 volts, it almost always means the trimpot is bad.

the marquee sends ZERO volts to the filament both plugged in and fully powered up The marquee uses a seperate filament heater,which at 3.9 volts does not produce enough heat to cause the filament to to shed electrons.
Of coiurse at 6.5 volts it's shedding too many, it's a delicate circuit
