Lots of issues:

- Floating black levels
- No differentiation between REc601 and Rec709 (SD vs HD) so neither is entirely correct
- Soft D/A converters

You get what you pay for.

I own the first converter and it did a great job when I last used it. I used it with a Sony 1272Q before my JVC RS40U projector. After removing the CRT projector from my theater, I took the HDMI to RGBHV box apart. The chip set is the same Silicon Image that is used in the HDFury. Overall it is a nice converter.

Also, what are "floating black levels"? Is that like a floating ground? Smile My basic look over of the PCB showed the D/A converters to be on the SI chip, so then the HDFury is also soft?

Sorry - I was referring to the one in the second link. Looks like one of the cheaper versions that's been around for a while that has (or had) issues. Not sure about the first link.

Floating black levels means the black level, what is considered black moves up and down (brighter/darker). For example, if a bright scene is shown, the black level (what i considered black) "floats" up or down as compared to a darker scene. Not well anchored. Wrecks the image quality for serious viewing.

There's this one that looks vaguely familiar: http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Definition-HD-Mini-VGA-to-HDMI-RGBHV-Video-Audio-Converter-Adapter-Cable-/110931658153?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item19d40ac5a9

Well i guess i just need to buy one, and test it.. the reason i'm asking is that i'm trying to put together a cheep CRT setup for a friend.. Maybe a old 8" Ampro 3600 or like that, And buying a moome or HD furry will cost much more than the rest of this setup..

Sure i don't want floating black level.. But no need to be reference level converter..
