Last night the wife and I watched this movie. While our academic backgrounds would tend to make some science fiction movies difficult to watch, we usually try not to let that get in the way of enjoying the movie as we are watching it. But we do allow ourselves the intellectual process after the movie to discuss the consistencies of the film based on something we are somewhat skilled enough to ask questions on.

For instance, the distance to this planet's moon is 3.something X 10^14 KM. This is approximate;y 60 Light years away and the travel time was something like 2.25 years. Keeping in mind we are talking 79 years into the future, in that time they reinvent Physics (the speed of light is no longer the upper boundary of acceleration) and the average travel velocity is 26-27 times the 'c'.

While I am not going to apply modern Physics for hyper relativistic flight this seems like quite an achievement. Furthermore, if it only took 2.25 years for the Prometheus to get to its destination then I presume it would take as long to get back. So, we are talking about 5 years round trip with about six months of surveying and exploring, right?

So why send a manned vessel (costing only a Trillion dollars in 2091 economics) when you could easily wait five years and send multiple unmanned probes? I would think this better than say sending a lot of humans and finding nothing--talk about the potential for a wasted venture.

The wife and I also have a concern over the prime humans, or the supposedly 'engineers' and their needs for environmental suits. While I was not under the impression their ships weren't re-engineering the moon's atmosphere, the prime human at the end was more than capable of handling the outside air, unlike its derivative humans. This seemed to conflict with the recording of the prime humans in their environmental suits running down the passages of their ship early on in the movie.

Yes, the wife and I do tend to wonder about things, but during the movie we didn't actively engage this aspect and just watched the movie.

i think in this type of movie you have o throw in a worm hole (or 2). They obviously didn't feel the need to describe the actual journey there and spent the time on the back-story to Aliens. It's supposed to ultimately be 3 movies so I'm guessing they have a lot of material to cover .This one still felt a little rushed.

you missed the part where the CEO of the corporation behind the mission is dying and is secretly "stowed away" on the ship. the real reason behind the mission is to find the prime humans and give him eternal life.

were they environmental suits, or haz-mat suits for bio-engineering the alien weapon.
Anyway, I'm eager to see why they decided the life they seeded on the various planets was a mistake and decided to kill everything? Knowing Cameron, there will be an environmental, progressive, anti-right wing message behind it all. Like the Prime humans all joined a doomsday cult similar to Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, then after wiping out their own race decided all life was flawed. Sort of a Republican convention chaired by Jim jones. Your going to love it Wan Laughing
