|
|
Been wondering this for a while... To stay CRT or go digital, and if I do stay CRT (Still leaning towards it, the picture is too attractive )I have been wondering if a nicer (better tubes, less use, etc...) NEC XG1351 or 1352 would be worth while getting and replacing my XG1100??
Seems XGs are worthless (why I do not know... they have some of the best PQ I have seen on any projector), or near it anyway, I figured maybe an LC version of it (or 2) would be worth sticking with?
I have been pondering it, and I could hang 2 from the ceiling, behind a wall, and that way I would eliminate the noise they produce, as I can swear my XG1100 gets louder and louder by the day!
What is everyones opinion on that??? The XG seems to be the projector to go with even over many 9" CRTs (except for maybe a 1209s or a barco split pack ) so I think I should stick with the series if its worth while...

If it has better tubes ofcourse, if its LC over AC then ofcourse, if tubes are simular and still AC then no, not worth the effort.
Youll get the best image control and hands down the best convergence from an XG.
If your XG is getting louder, open it up and clear the sh*t out of there, mine isnt that loud at all.

Yes I have often wondered, what IS the best method of cleaning out a CRT PJ? Since it is something that usually cant be moved outside to get blown out by an air compressor, does vacuuming do a good enough job?
Im getting my sony pearl digital PJ back soon from mac, if, once I get a working bulb for it and it works, I will be taking the XG down anyway to go through it. it probably could use a cleaning, and looking through the lenses there is a haze starting to develop, 2 years without cleaning is pretty good though
As far as the XG1100 to XG135x goes, it would of course be AC to LC, I want to get a LC projector regardless if I stick with CRT, and I would be in high hopes that the XG135x I find will have nice tubes.
The tubes in the 1100 aren't bad, but they have already had an additional 1000+ hours of use on them from me alone, not counting their previous owner, so I'm sure they arent as milky white as they used to be
Still throws out a hell of a picture though, and like I said, especially when it comes to video, its like having sex with the hottest woman on earth!!
Which XG135x should I go with? 1350 (think thats the AC version still?) 1351, or 1352, what are the differences between the 3 135x??

1350 is AC, so you won't see any improvement compared to your 1100. The difference between 1351 and 1352 is subtle in terms of performance, however 1352 should have the MCAT setup system which makes the machine set up procedure easy even for babies Boards are not really compatible between ...0 ...1 ...2 series.

Do you mean ACAT? My RUNCO has that.

No, ACAT is the auto convergence feature with a camera introduced with PG plain and remained untouched until XG 1 series, that was the worst auto convergence system amongst all. MCAT is the modern version the auto convergence system, where you don't need a camera anymore, you just have to set a little cross at ~9 place on the screen, and MCAT does the rest, top of that this is working extremely well.

Negative, no ACAT on a PG plain.
ACAT on my RUNCO (8th 2000 model) gets you to align a number of crosshairs, 5 across and 5 down in the center, then 1 in each corner. No camera required. Perfect results if you chose that method. 13 points in total.

Then you have an XG 852 with MCAT. -> http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/NECXG85_135LC_Brochure.pdf
ACAT was only an option, check your PG plain faceplate for a round shape between red and green tube, that is the place of the camera, also check for ACAT BNC connector next to V sync BNC. For ACAT you'd need a PC with a video capture card, and had to use the PC control software to do the auto convergence.

Its called ACAT in the menu, thats ACAT enough for me!! No reference to MCAT anywhere.
PG Plus has that, ive never heard of it on a plain. No hole in the front on any plain ive seen, only plus and xtra. There is no reference to it in the manual of the Plain.
Are you absolutely sure?

Of course I could be wrong about the PG plain ACAT, but it's not the point either.
The point is, XG2 series has the multipoint interpolated convergence aid, and the rest doesn't.

Which is what mine has, and the menu for it is called ACAT. Its under the POINT menu in CONVERGENCE setting. After you line up all the crosses by holding CTL and using the arrow keys to move each colour as you do with normal POINT, it calculates everything and youre done.

Well it all depends if he wants to continue telling me what the menu heading should say on my XG or not... If the menu says ACAT, then its ACAT as far as im concerned. No reference to MCAT anywhere in any menu or even in the help function on the projector.
Where does it call it MCAT on the machine?

Case, did you look at the brochure that I linked 2 days ago? If yes, then why are you telling there is no reference about MCAT?
Let me help you:
We are arguing only on terms. the menu tells it is ACAT, well then it is ACAT. Do my PG xtra has ACAT? Yes! Can I set the crosses? No! So they are not quite the same version. Does every XG has ACAT feature menu? No! Can you attach camera aided ACAT to any XG? Yes! So all XG's have ACAT, but not all of them has ACAT menu.
Sorry I made confusion with MCAT.

Yeah mate ive seen that before, but im telling you what the machine calls it. Screen looks exactly as you show in those 3 pics.
No reason to be sorry about it, im simply going off a different reference to you, and ive never been too keen on brochures!!
