Hello. To all of the forum members who have kindly taken the time to contribute to some of my posts recently, I do sincerely want to extend my gratitude for all of your assistance. After dedicating an entire day (literally more than 20 hours) to tweaking numerous settings while implementing many of the invaluable insights garnered here I managed to obtain a pretty kick-ass picture from my Marquee 8500  I wasn't necessarily able to perform all of the adjustments potentially required (because I as of yet don't really know what they do......), however, it was obviously enough to put a big smile on my face from Transformers 2 on Blu-Ray. I am outputting 1080P from my PS3, and, (despite some reservations on this resolution) it looks great. Have my brightness set at 59 with a contrast setting of 54 (got these figures by using the Digital Video Essentials guide); I must have spent at least an hour turning both the gamma and contrast screws on the Moome card to what seemed to me generating no real changes in the picture only until I got to the very limit of the little potentiometers. After a final convergence, I locked the channel am now looking forward learning more so i can figure the rest of this beast out! Cheers

the contrast screw on the moome card should not really be touched unless you can measure it with a multimeter.
Best way to measure it is to put up the full white field from your DVE disc and measure the output on one of the RGB connectors
to the VNB's. It should measure .7 volts I believe this is the correct way to set this. Others might chime in if I am wrong.
Usually a brightness setting of 59 is way way to high. Mine is set to 44. The screen should be completely black with the 0 IRE field.
Make sure the room is completely dark when doing that part of the set up.

Hi Athanasios. Thanx for chiming in. Well, it's too late about touching that contrast screw on the Moome card: I hope that I didn't screw things up too much...... As far as my Brightness setting, I got to a level of 59 by repeatedly following the Digital Video Essentials guide section involving multiple grey scale exercises; And, the room was completely dark. I'm pretty sure that the overall set-up is by no means ideal but I'm really constrained by my limited experience and may have to be content with whatever I've been able to yield so far

Looks like I'm stuck with the PS3 for the next little while unitl I can upgrade to something more substantial like an Oppo but they're not so cheap

This thread is a perfect example of the replies on could expect to any post in which 20hours of work led to happiness: "You still need to do X,Y, and Z. Don't do A or B. Think about C....and D...and we can debate on E. Oh, BTW, congrats!"  
I love it...it is a perfect encapsulation of how folks here strive for perfection, love to tweak, share and learn!
I remember one of my early posts in which I was thrilled at the quick image I had produced with my LD player feeding my PJ through a 1997 era line doubler. Thinking it looked too black, I had the PJ cranked so bad the image was green blooming at every bright area and was 18 miles from correct by any/all measures! Oh course, now I'm only 17miles from correct...
here's to being fat, dumb, and happy.

I'm just trying to do my best in learning what's what here; If it weren't for the kind insight of the folks on this forum, I'd pretty much be out of luck.....
- Athanasios: When you outlined that my brightness is high being set at 59, I did read Dragan's set up guide and it states that both Contrast and Brightness up to 60 is normal - Am I missing something? Thanx
