|
|
I want to see Barco Owners of the forum's screen-shots of projector and HD projected image. I am proud to be a barco owner. where I work we make parts for Barco projectors, I've been working there for 2 and a half years. Ever since I've known barco as the best projector display company in the world!
just to give you a little taste who even talked about makign something like this:
http://www.barco.com/en/products-solutions/powerful-12-crt-projector-with-unsurpassed-brightness.aspx
Anyway too much of a barco Fanboy Show me your pictures I am dying to see people's setups and final image.
My projector is currently in the process of being modded so I will have pictures of my projector during the process.
Barco 1208s/2 ---PT18-205 tubes
Modding it with Color Filtered and corrected HD-145 Lenses.
Working on port 3 mod with better caps for better cleaner image, probably eliminating some ringing. Soldering minicoax straight from the DB9 connector to the input pins.
Hopefully with the help of an Electrical engineer friend, we will make an HDMI port to put in a totally modded port 3 of my barco 1208s/2.
I'll keep you posted.

Hey, just because barco did a 12" monster (which haven't been seen by anyone ) is not the best projector company, also you listed a dozen mods you did / will do; this is not the best company's sign. Look at a NEC, there is no need for any mod, they have anything you need right from the factory.

I wanna know how much a 12" machine weighed out of morbid curiosity.

It does not seem all that long ago that many were available. I am wondering if modding a 1208 to take a 1209 is just as possible.

Couldnt agree more, but that link he posted was the 912, and itll beat an NEC pretty well if it was an 812 its nothing special, but a 912 is a bigger version of a 909.

Yeah, maybe in pure perormance it wins, but as I see in this forum the 909s are somewhat more problematic pj than the others, especially with keeping in mind that they are fairly rare.

I can't say NEC is the best either.... just because no one has done any mods, doesn't mean that there aren't any to do. I'll bet its because the most common NEC CRT PJs are 7 and 8 inch tubed units, which no one wastes time on. A marquee 8500 would probably not even have gotten so much attention if the chassis wasnt literally the same as a 9500.
There are things that can be done to the NECs to make them better, I know there is, but there is limited help available, that or no one wants to mod theirs. I know there can be a better solution for the fans of the XG, as well as some other capacitor mods so I dont hear them buzzing away when a bright scene comes up on the screen.
Again, NEC is far from perfect, they just did it better than everyone else to start with
As far as the barco 912... from what I have found online, its main bonus was the light output, I have read that often the 12" tubes were not capable of as sharp of a display as a normal 9" CRT, but again, thats what I have read, not seen in person.
Barco themselves as a whole for quality... I'll give them a 8 out of 10. A few of their large venue commercial displays I had of theirs were nice, but the panels quickly died, exhibiting dark spotting, purely from using the monitor. They got HOTTT!
So far my NEC LCD4020-2-AV is holding up, and its much more attractive than the barco solaris.

Jeremy, name one mod you know of for an NEC you need to do before itll do what any other unmodded ( or even modded if you like ) 8 inch machine will do? They have the best focus, some of the best astigmatism, and without question the best convergence.
My XG doesnt buzz, so thats not a mod thats needed, that is a repair you need to do to your unit.

Could be worse.....I'd be a fanboy of Barco before an ampro anyday....but then again I like whatever is of greater value. I happen to love Runco. NEC and Barco both got nice mods from Runco. But when you get a deal on a Vision One like I did......I am a fan of that!! And not many people knock Barco. Fine brand and it is still in business that does dispay as their main focus. Is there any other that can say that?
