so it looks like there's dozens of versions of this classic book to movie adaptation. The ones I remember are the b&W version from 1934 and the color version of 1950, both pretty good. there's also a 1990 version with Charleton Heston and christian Bale (never released to disc?).
which one would you say is "best" based on acting, picture, and audio quality combined?

You could try "Treasure Planet" for a "slightly" different spin on it....

The 1990 one was released to disc....yeah, that's right -- to LASERDISC!

I'm reading the book to my seven year old boy right now and was unaware of the 1990 version. Maybe will have to pick it up if I can find it reasonably priced. I'd bet there are folks who have transferred it to DVD and/or bitorrent that somewhere.
Also, I see there is a 2012 3hr made for TV version...

cheers,

Matt | that's why I want it too, I remember watching it as a kid and I bet my boys would love it too. There was a really good story there and it's something you don't get much of with Pirates of the Caribbean franchise crap.
The 1990 one got rather bad reviews, but dam Christina Bale makes a LOT of movies.
IT doesn't seem blockbuster has ANY of them, which is why I'll be canceling that soon.
