Friends will coming over at weekend for a photo presentation of their last jurney. My plan is to hook up my 6PG xtra for this purpose. As usually the photos will be more like in 4:3 format, so I have to set up a new resolution for the presentation. the pictures are taken with lot mega pixels, so it would be nice to find the best resolution both for pj and for us. I've tried 1280x1024@60Hz (64kHz scanrate) this looks good enough to stick with it, but I know these pjs are picky to high scanrates, fortunately my 6PG xtra forbids me to use crazy high scanrates, but can I use safely scanrates in the 60-69kHz range? I'd like to add that I have an extra fan installed on the deflection board's heat sink, and there was no sign of any heat stress during the test, it ran very cool at 1280*1024.

Does it look sharp at 1280x1024@60hz?

Yes, it's sharp in the center, in the corners not really, but I think this is because my pj has only HD-6ML-C lenses (instead of the original HD145s)
In the meantime I realised that 1280*1204 isn't 4:3 AR, however 1280*960 it is, so I can save some bandwith and some lower scanrate with it.

Yes was going to say 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect. The 5:4 aspect is used for computers cause it allows the extra at the bottom for the windows task bar. 16:10 aspect is used on computer monitors for the same reason over 16:9.

Could also try 1152x864 if your computer has that resolution available, but i also wonder if the pictures will be in 4:3 format or will they be in 3:2 format? If they are 3:2 format you can also try 1280x854...

Those will all be sharp on an XTRA, itll be the lenses holding the edges back.

I think the photos will be in 3:2 not in 4:3, since they was taken with a DSLR machine. However I don't have 1280x864 to choose nor any other 3:2 AR resolution. Now I tried several resolutions: 1024x768@75Hz, 1280x960@60Hz, 1152x864. At 1024x768 the scanlines are visible from closer inspection, but I get about 5" bigger picture in diagonal (when 75" is for 1024x768) compared to 1280x960, and with 1152x864 it's even smaller. This is clearly a timing issue, but I have intel integrated graphics, so I can't do much with this. So I think I'll use 1024x768 just because it's the biggest.

Only good if raster is as light as the center...

Well, I did some more experiments and at the end I sticked with 1152x864@75Hz. However it really smaller than 1024x768 but the visible scanlines made me think it wasn't the full potential, at 864 line the scanlines are just touching themselfs, while this is low resolution enough to set it at 75Hz refresh, so it ended up at 67kHz scanrate, I hope the def board will survive the slideshow Razz (I have no doubt)

Hey, that's funny. I ended up with that res @72Hz. Somehow I think I hit a sweet spot there.
My PG suffers from amnesia, but seems to remember that specific resolution most of the time.

I usually use mine in 720p@72Hz for movies, the slide show was yesterday and it was great -I mean the projector Smile

Have you checked your deflection board for leaking capacitors?

What do you mean? If the image is within the wear area, then i see no good reason not to increase the amplitude.
