Hi, I have a Barco 1208s - I've been told the powerboard needs repair - and that that is all the repair it needs - I want to know what the value of this projector might be - for resale. An estimate for a current market value would be appreciated. - Thanks

Zero. There's really no demand for anything but 9" sets. I'd give you $50 for one of the parts in it, but as a whole, even working, it's not really worth anything. You might get $100-200 for the set of tubes if they are in near mint condition, but a 15 year old 1208s will usually have some wear on the tubes, making them worthless. Sorry!

The interest in CRTs is for the most part over, it peaked about 10 years ago. Back then a working 1208s with good tubes was worth $2-4K, but now that the digital projectors are good enough for most people, the average consumer isn't looking for a CRT any more. You might try giving it away on Craigslist if you don't want to part it out.

Thanks Curt, I think? - I'm in South Africa, someone wants the 1208s, perhaps to repair ( he might have mentioned your name) or maybe he really just needs some parts? - I spent a bit getting it and was hoping to get it working myself, somehow, when I had the time, money and could do the research. I've read (in your comments possibly) that the power boards generally could use a complete re-solder - so I'm hopeful that the power board is all that is faulty. If I'm going to let it go - I do want to sell it. To let it go for $100 seems irresponsible? $200?

There is one guy in SA that might be interested, I'll link him to this post.

It really depends on tube condition. Even in SA where CRTs are almost nonexistent, it's not worth spending $700 per tube if the tubes are worn. I'll see if he wants to contact you, the two of you can haggle it out.

Cheers!

Best alternative is to just fix it. ! Read on ...

http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco1208.shtm

And yes in my personal opinion CRT projectors still rule when it comes to image quality ! Are you sure it's the power board itself and not just a blown or bad fuse ?

Also check for any Red LED's and is one lit on the EHT module ?

My guy in SA is passing on it. I agree, if the tubes are in good shape, why not fix it and use it?

Thanks all - I'm going to have a closer look at it, try to determine exactly what's wrong and repair affordability.
I don't know what it's fuses look like nor where they are - I'm going to start there. (I do think it's the power-board, though, since the previous owners seemed to know what they where talking about)

If he described it as the 'power board', then he's not exactly a technician. A 'power board' could be:

-AC input board
-main SMPS
-motherboard
-HV board
-HV quadrupler

and any number of other boards in the set.

If you want to know what's wrong with it, plug it in and post what it does or does not do.

Cheers!

OK - plugged in and pressed on - the mains power LED went on (red) - I looked inside - under the folding cover:

StdBY POWER - on
Processor Cycles - flashing

easy fix?

Now press the 'stby' button on the flip out keypad to actually turn on the set.

Flip out keypad? - I've not found it - Also I have no remote - when I got the Barco I was told they did not have the remote. (lost or sold?)
