I concur. Too many far better machines going begging to spend anymore time on that museum piece. Do yourself a favour and get a nice Barco 808 or Sony G70.

for 25 pounds and a little drive there is a barco 500 you could score. Not sure about the blue tube.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barco-500-CRT-Projector-/140777707721?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Projectors&hash=item20c70158c9

I have a complete set of SD187 tubes that are maybe 8 or 9 ratings you could have for free. I was about to post them on buy-sell for free-to-a-good-home - you could have them for the actual cost of shipping (maybe $US70?) that I *think* would work in the barco 500.

cheers,
Matt

Jeff, a Seleco 150 is impossible to troubleshoot via email. I don't know the set at all, not many were sold in North America. It's a video only 480i set. Unless he finds an identical set in the Uk, he's SOL on this one.

Well,

I have copies of the schematics and several parts here. The problem is that the SVT150 is quite difficult to repair. Basically it's a chassis from a TV set modified for driving three instead of one tube. So it's as far away from the tidy construction of a Barco as it can be. Many boards and cabling stuffed into a box. Very difficult to even take measurements. Furthermore these sets are 15+ years old so that aging parts could cause any kinds of failures.
Sorry, but I don't think that Remote diagnosis and repair is possible in this case...

Regards,

Jeff...the OP is in England "bin"/dustbin refers to trash...So he was thinking along those lines, albeit for a "free" machine. That might be hard to do, but $50 he might be able to scrape together(?). If not, I'd recommend he makes some tough choices/priorities and/or starts saving. I say this with respect and understanding...I've got to be in the bottom 20% of discretionary funds on this site and have a wife who has been out of full-time work since June 2011. Neutral [She's finally got two promising phone interviews next week, tho'!]

I'm trying to figure out how/if I can set aside monies for a path to a blend (either PC or dedicated component) over the next year+...

cheers,
Matt

I wasnt trying to guilt trip anyone. If the pj is probably not repairable, I get that, sounds like he does too. I just wasnt seeing the usual troubleshooting help that I am accustomed to here and I felt the need to point it out I guess.
Now i know why. As does he. It aint that no one wanted to help, it was that no one could help.
That wasnt clear to me before. It is now.

I'm with you, Jeff. Actually, given that we've all evolved/are made to depend on the nuances of vocal inflection, nuances of the eyes, posture, etc. it is a freaking miracle that communications on forums (that must rely on crappy typing alone) don't break-down a lot more often than they do! And that is to say nothing of the fact that people from 4 countries have been involved in this one thread alone... Wink

Best of luck to the OP!

Matt
