I aligned my PG6200 in a probably unconventional way.
It was original ceiling and when I got it,I changed it to floor.
But you need to align and converge after the change, and while it has been tolerable
it was never completely right.
I recently improved it in significant way but I've always wondered,
if the picture is misaligned how can those various grids and circles
as found in say,Video Essentials,help.
I got a real good deal at Fry's on SX50 canon and
fed a grid to both monitors and aligned the NEC to as near perfect
the Canon display on the same screen ,line over line.
It looks so much more uniform, but I couldn't have achieved that by staring
at circles and lines and guessing the correct settings.
How do pros do this task?

Thanks

Well, the most important thing is, learn the manual for whatever projector you're setting up inside and out. A pro does not 'guess' what adjustment is needed. Without a thorough understanding of what each adjustment does, you'll never get any CRT projector adjusted correctly.

Second, NEVER turn any controls under the covers of an NEC.

Third: The pros usually use string with a measuring tape to make sure each square within the setup grid is level and the same size all over the screen. Tedious, but worth it. A number of people use the method you're using, having a digital projector project the same image as the CRT, and using the digital as reference, nothing wrong with that at all.

The digital projector overlay method is abit flawed if the screen isnt perfectly flat though.

Thanks so much!

Have a manual, but the info presumes an existing level of ability.

Did use level and tape measure, good to know acceptable.

Have you read this?

http://curtpalme.com/CRTSetupGuide.shtm

I wrote that for the NEC XG, but most applies to the 6200 as well.

I realize now that I used some of that info back several years ago when I got that set.
I forgot the source and only recently reacquainted myself to this site.
I however, did not review, absorb & appreciate the full amount of material here.
I was impatient then, to get it running and intimidated by what I see as the technical
and tedious work they require(all projectors) but especially ones that have so much ability
to adjust, the reward is a beautiful picture.

I was smitten to Projection in the early 80's by a friend who got a used Advent end table monitor.
When I couldn't afford it I bought a Zenith home front projector, much like the ones in the sports bars.
I used that set 13 years and it still works but is a coffee table only.It cost 2K,thought it was the first/last set I'd
ever get,'til they change standards.
It has tasked me on and off,but I have been, and always shall be, a friend to front projection.

I'm only dealing with this Nec now but ,I'm awed by the combined knowledge and dedication
at this site,to what I feel is a greatly under appreciated form of home viewing.
