OK I know Curt has a "best to worst" projector list.. To my knowledge seems pretty accurate. My friend who has a Barco 1208 s/2 is in the process of changing his lenses from HD-8"s to HD-145's. He is wondering if this makes his projector jump some more notches. I too am interested. I might be doing the same thing. I know it is not important.....just curious.

Well, if you upgrade the lens to HD-145, then the barco almost can catch a NEC
Seriously you will get the absolute maximum what you'd expect from an 8" AC machine.

No, it wont. Itll still have the same capabilities, and itll NEVER be an NEC

Shew....I was worried it would downgrade it to a NEC.

In order for that to happen, it would first have to be a higher model of NEC. There is only NEC and 8 hangers on

I had this discussion with Scott a couple of years ago. The differences between pjs isn't that great once you equalize the tube and lens combo. The 145s are great lenses and should give him an excellent image especially if they are color filtered.
Also, the list isn't an absolute. It is more of a category range.

Watched a full movie on the 6PGX a few nights ago. I still think it's a great picture but the noise is bothersome, I think it would get under my skin if I owned it. A stock MArquee is a lot quieter even without the fan noise modification. The Barco's are quieter still.
Other thing I find annoying is the machine has a complete brain fart if you turn it no with no source, luckily my buddy is careful to turn that on first. NEC Engineers couldn't have put a simple internal signal to run the machine when before it locks on to external?

Biggest improvement I saw on my BG808S was when I switched from HD-8's to color filtered 145's. Reds were no longer orange and there was great saturation of color. The pj will have to be moved about 5 inches closer to the screen for the same throw, which in my floor mounted arrangement meant I could finally sit in the sweet spot behind the pj.

Yes, adding color filtering will make a HUGE difference in color. As Haydn says you'll have to move it a bit closer, AND be sure to do a new color calibration with the new lenses!! Without a new calibration it'll look like crap, but with a calibration it should look fabulous.

I have a 9PG that i dont find loud at all, can hardly hear it in the quiet scenes, and can hear it at all with any action happening. I dont find the XG to be much louder either...

Rubbish, they lock to the signal as soon as you turn it on, nothing wrong with this, i sometimes turn on my 9PG ages before i end up using it and leave it sit idle with no signal, and it hasnt affected anything ( i personally dont see how it could!! ) The NEC engineers have done a top job with the way they operate these rigs, youve got the best control over everything that ANY set short of a Cine 9 has, and they are rock solid stable to boot Now quit ya moanin!!!

Yes, nothing wrong with turning on a PG without input signal, the freeerun frequency is 15kHz/35Hz, if it isn't ok then something wrong with the pj... but I admit the signal management is really screwed up, I really miss a proper convergence approximation for new signals.
