Who knows what this is worth:

Quad AM-11
Quad Model 1
Quad Mark II

Got a friend that owns this stuff. Can't find anything online for it. Mono, 1950s, tube.

Priceless or worthless?

Well, fanboys will say just because its tube its priceless. I should try and sell a turd with a tube 'plugged in' and see what they'll offer me for it.

BTW, can you remove this post from Google? Razz

i have a pair of QUAD ESL57 speakers and sold my QUAD 44 pre-amp a few months back. still miss it.

lots of stuff out there on the QUAD gear, has quite a following.

without pictures i'm "guessing" here, but the quad Mark II is likely a QUAD II mono amp. precursor to the QUAD 303 stereo amp. very very nice. the am tuner is blindingly rare, you see a lot of the FM tuners, but not many of the AM. the quad model 1 is the controller unit (errr, preamp). i've only ever seen pictures of that.

somewhere i have some literature with a picture of the model 1 and the AM -11 mounted in a console. that along with a QUAD II amp and ESL57 (only 1 of course) would have been 1950 home audiophile.

as a set they are probably worth more than individual. the model 1 and am-11 are probably worth less than the QUAD II, but a single QUAD II might be a hard sell as many people like to match up serial numbers as the units changed design subtly over the production run.

Yeah this is a complete mono system. Never seen one, so they have to be pretty rare methinks. 1950s for sure. From what I saw quickly, mint condition.

Definitely worth some money Curt. Boilermaker would know something about it too.

Over at Audio Karma i typed in Quad and there was a guy who found a Quad mono set up but the Quad II and they all said to grab it.
It was very highly regarded back then .

E-mail this guy too

I offered $200 for the set. They were asking $400... Not taking the gamble at $400...unless someone can assure me that I can get well over that for them.

Damn I'm Jealous!!!! 400 is fair as well Curt. I know the Quad II is worth a good penny. The Quad I is the first so it might be worth more to collectors. ANd from what I hear they sound great. Alot of the Quad lovers look for two to make a stereo set up. But the Purist try for the entire Mono set up as a dedicated set up, with full mono turntable etc, they usually have one set up for stereo and then the other for mono. I bet you could get more than 400 for the entire set up. Post pics first here, Id love to see them.

Yup, that's it. Back left tuner, not the right side. Guessing that power amp is hidden somewhere, I didn't see it.

If it's worth $600 or more, I'll email them and will go grab it.

I'm sure I will. For some reason, CRT sales are NUTS right now, as is me quoting on sound stuff. Putting in 16 hour days right now, so I'll get back to this thread.. some day. Smile

rare in canada perhaps but they sure look familiar to me.

edit: no my mistake, they made some other equipment (solid state) that looked just like this, almost anyways.

Awesome! Do you still use them, and if so have you had them rebuilt? What are you driving them with?

I'm showing my age, but I had a pair many years ago and ended up building an HQD setup around them. For those of you that are not old farts, the H is for the old Hartley 24" woofer in an infinite baffle, the Q for the original Quad electrostat and the D for a horn loaded Decca ribbon tweeter with a huge magnet structure. Loved that system!
