My projector has been relatvely reliable until recently. I started to get variable horizontal interference and now the picture is just winking in and out. Have a full 8500 in garage for parts, but dont have an idea where to start. already pulled the input board, CLM board and the VIM and blew the dust off (a lot of dust) and reseated. Still no luck. Still winking. Any ideas?

Hello

Are you seeing any red diagnostic lights on the back panel?

heat related maybe.

make sure that underneath your projector the opening that is for airflow isn`t covered in dust.

pull of the dpb too and clean those contacts with alcohol and push down on those socketed chips.

just reseating without cleaning the pins might not do the trick.

what does that mean? Is the horizontal size changing? If so and the pic is going in and out it sounds like the High voltage power supply is on it's way out

Projecter was loaded with dust. Tired several things suggested above, but never was able to get it going. Have decided to launch the projector for something smaller. Was tired of hearing the wife saying she hated this monstosoty in her LR.

Fix it up and hang it from the ceiling then.

I just do not have the technical skill nor the patience to fix it to the point that most enthusiasts here have done. I never found the picture to be too sharp nor bright enough in my viewing location and the convergence drifting annoyed me. I took a huge leap down to a DPL projector (HD20). Its sharp and clean, but does suffer significantly from the color and fluid motion of the CRT. I still believe that if I moded the projector I'd be able to get everything to be good again, but I just dont have the technical skill to do the electronic mods and so my decision to move on instead of fixing. Most important....shes happy. I will have to suffer a bit.

I am located in Moorpark, CA. Now considering best offers. Really would like to see them get used rather than end up at an ewaste site where they will be destroyed for good.

You didn't really need the skill, you simply needed to hire someone with the skill for a few hundred bucks, less than what you paid for the DLP most likely.
I can't blame your wife though, I think she was pretty Tolerant up to this point.I wouldn't want one in my living room either . These machines really belong in a specific room and on the ceiling.
At any rate, videogon.com is free, no complete working machine sales here . You should be able to list it as broken though in the FS section since it is in fact broken and needing some type of repair?
