TV/Projector: All of them!

Posted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 3:03 am    Post subject: Oh the horror!

It's actually pretty rare that something electronic blows up at my place.

For the first time in 18 months I turned on my trusty 9500LC on my ceiling, as my satellite dish crapped out during the snowstorm and needed a reboot. THe 9500 has been percolating on the ceiling, and I turned it on actually last August to see if it still powered up. It did, but was out of convergence, so I turned it off again.

Today, I grab the remote and power up. BAM! The all too familiar sound of blowing MOSFETS, and the set doesn't power up.

Dammit! Mr. Green

Ahh blowing FETS, nothing more exciting!... Well, maybe old capacitors flying out of a receiver?? had that happen once because I reversed the polarity of it and didnt realize I did so! Talk about awesome, all the cardboard stuff in it flying all over the place, was quite a show and scared everyone in the room! Mr. Green

I think there is a guy that sometimes posts on here called Mac something. No wait I think his name is raster. Laughing

This is kind of timely. Cue up Crabb.

raster was a jerk that used to post on AVS years ago. For some reason, he never came over here, which was a good thing.

raster was an idiot over at avs that claimed he was god's gift to CRT projectors... running Svideo to a Sony 1272. he told me numerous times I had no idea what I was talking about, so of course every opportunity I had to get him to paint himself into a corner, I took full advantage of. Smile

Actually, it started by him calling me out as a scam artist or something like that, that I overcharged for repairs, etc. You can imagine my reaction..Smile

I guess it was a bad joke then. Curt jokingly asked if anyone could fix his pj. I jokingly implied that maybe you or maybe raster could fix it. I thought Curt would like the dig with raster for reasons he mentioned in his post.

It was a bit of an insider joke. Only those who used to inhabit the AVS CRT forum before the meltdown would appreciate the reference.

Too bad avs crashed. I did find a bunch of his posts, but none were hysterical enough to link to. It was his early posts as a newbie that were link-worthy.

Does Curt even use a CRT projector for watching things like TV and movies?

I sure do, but my main TV is a 72" Barco RP set run at 1080i via a Faroudja processor. I always fall asleep in front of it. 44K hours, original tubes, brightness and contrast at about 50. Good tube emission as well, go figure.
