With the closing of Mike Parker's section of the forums, what happened to all the threads related to nec xg mods?

If I remember correctly, Mike handed this off to nzryan more than a year ago and he was promising some sort of upgrade kit. Haven't heard anything since then.

What could a NEC XG possibly need for mods? the only one I could see would be a mod to allow the XG to accept 1080p direct from a source, correctly. That is the only thing I would need, otherwise I can't think of anything that would be needed Smile

That's probably why his "mods" never appeared.

FWIW I still have the entire sub-forum here. It's simply hidden (not deleted).

There's probably lots of good info in there but it's all mixed in with Mike's talk about when and how various mods are going to be released, and since he no longer does wants to sell mods I'm assuming that's why he wanted the whole forum to go away. I'm assuming he doesn't want the questions/calls/emails.

I could move threads over the CRT Projectors forum but then the problem comes back since reading through any of the threads you'll get the impression he does mods.

I don't have time either go through and edit/cut & paste information. That would be hours and hours of work. If someone wanted to do this and Mike was ok with it, I'd have no issues giving someone access to the hidden Mike Parker forum to go and 'cherry pick' information out so that new threads could be created in the CRT projectors forum.

I have no idea. There are over 10,000 registered users here.

I searched for that user name in the members page and found his public profile here:

http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1483

Seems last time he posted was June 4, 2011. Last time he visited was Jan 5, 2012.

Just checked and found a PM from nzryan dated 8/10 where he stated that he had finished the mods and had 700 testing hours with no problems and that he would soon issue a set of instructions of " how to" for a modest charge to cover his costs.

Yeah Mikes, there were lots of info on Marquee stuff there as well. Also trouble shooting issues with the proper fixes etc.

Lots of helpful info is in those threads not specifically pertaining to Mikes mods.

But he also blocked my ip Address to his private Marquee Mods Factory, and I had some stuff I posted there
I wish i could look back at...oh well.

The only mod I would ever consider to a XG would be to gut out a 1352 and turn it into a 9" beast.
And that my friends would kick the snot out of a G-90 or fully modded quee hands down. Twisted Evil

Yes, it has more, but at a sacrifice. Hard to get devices with both high frequency response and high voltage. Can't have it both ways.

Is there truly a way to hybrid the 2 together?

well if you can find a 9" CRT with comparable characteristics to the p16s and a suitable tube neck for the coils I don't see why not. I think that the hardest part would be modifying the chassis to get them to fit. I've had success transplanting gp3000 tubes into a PGx and I even used the coils from the gp Very Happy

Keep your eyes open for a Barco Reality 912 instead. Laughing

Why would that be hard? You mean fitting inside the chassis or mounting? A couple steel plates and some holes drilled? Easy. I doubt youd get them to physically fit within the chassis without widening it.
