Hello!
I have a Zenith System 3 that I bought new in 1988. A few years ago, I replaced with a new Samsung because the sound was cutting in and out in spurts for about a half hour. About a week after I got the new tv, the sound was working fine again...go figure. Confused However, the colors were starting to get way out of adjustment and unfocused. There is a red/orange hint to every image. Whites don't appear white. Text was almost unreadable. The on-screen display was unreadable too (it's a black box that's supposed to have green text inside). The Zenith has seen little use since, but I want to set it up in my basement now, so I want to get the picture quality up as best as I can. I've messed with the external adjustments, but the problems still remain. What can I do to fix it?
Thanks,
Mike

Most likely the pix tube is shot. Post a pix of the image, but I was a Zenith dealer, and post 1986, the whole Zenith line started to go to crap. Not worth repairing, unlesss someone lives close to you and have a pix tube zapper like the Sencore, and even then, there's no guarantee that the tube will last.

I have a 20" Zenith from 1987. The tube died at around 10 years, 20 hours a day. It did exactly what you are describing. Had a new tube installed for $90, BUT that was back in 1997. Hope you can find one new now.
