I have a Marquee 8111. (I think Curt said it was modded to 8500 lenses?) I am doing a ceiling mount.

The instructions say to mount it (for the 8500) 127.1 inches throw distance from the screen.

How close to the recommended measurements do I need to be?

Are there tolerances?

Thanks!

See about 1/2 way down the page here for the proper way to figure out the throw distance on any CRT projector: http://www.curtpalme.com/TubeCondition_PoorInstall.shtm

The basic idea is to maximize the image width on the middle (green) tube and then move the projector back/forth until it fit the screen. Everything else is a compromise and usually is not optimized as you're doing it backwards.

Thanks Kal.

I found out that "the throw on all the Marquee 8XXX are identical, 1.4 X the width of the screen."

So that is 134.4 inches for me. The 8500 manual had it at 127.1 inches.

I don't have an external grid pattern source, so would it give suitable results to just go with ~131 inches for now?

I don't know I've never owned a marquee.

You don't need a grid pattern. You just need an image. The projector has built in grid patterns too.
