We have a 16 year old Runco IDP 900 that worked perfectly until last year. The convergence board went out and we replaced it with one from Curt. Now last month the whole thing shot craps! It powers up for 5 seconds then shuts down and then repeats the cycle. No picture and no error code (00). Any ideas? Is it time to invest in an LCD or single chip DLP projector for our home theater?

Possibly. Sad

The NEC PG sets are known for bad capacitors at this point. I had a 900 with an original 700 hours on it last year that I spent 6 hours recapping.. and then it still failed 3 hours into the install with another couple of caps that I had missed. Your problem most likely is on the system board, as it sounds exactly like the set that I had, same problem, power cycles with no error codes, but it could also be a bad power supply or deflection board. The circuits can't catch every problem in the set, so you've got one with no error codes. I'd either change the set to a newer XG that doesn't have the age issues, or go digital.

Just keep in mind that you won't get 16 years out of any digital set, figure on 2-5 years typical before it needs to be replaced.

That will probably be the system board. This is simular to what my 9PG did, although it gave an unlisted error code.

First though, if you have a point board, pull that out, then try again, cause ive had the point board do that to me too.

Its NEVER time to do what you suggested in the last sentence...

Thanks for the info. No point board on board (ha). (Nec 6 PG). Is it worth pulling the system board, power supply etc and send to Curt for diagnosis and repair or replacement? Thanks in advance.
