I started this box about 6 years ago. It was a large flat rate USPS shipping box, but that overflowed about 3 years ago, so I dumped all them into a bigger box. It's been overflowing for the last 6 months, so it's finally time to dump it! $1000s of dollars in chips, caps, transistors, etc. All going to the dumpster... tomorrow. I start with a clean box on Jan 1.

Curt, the older chips and boards are worth some money for the precious metal content. Contact a precious metal refiner to see what the minimum weight or bulk in printed circuit boards they will take for refining. They do not charge you anything upfront, only a percentage off the final assay after refining, like 10% .You may be throwing your retirement away a box at a time! The newer chips and circuit boards have less gold, silver, and platinum than the say pre 2004 years production.

right, I saw a guy walk away with 50 bucks once for a small box of CPU's, that was 10 years ago.
Can't imagine what it's worth now with Copper at $3. a pound scrap value.

here, for the super lazy who don't care about the value of the precious metals this place will haul away your electronics for free

http://thehackery.ca/recycling.html

another place that buys "low grade circuit boards" which is what that type of scrap is called

http://www.edirefining.com/electronic-equipment-recycling

LOL, they even buy copper yokes. I bet Curt has a few of those Laughing

It is all going to the recycler.. I actually tried listing the parts for $1.00 on eBay a couple of years ago... 3 times.. with no takers.

I took a record 3 truckloads of crap to the recycler today. I was brutal in the shop, and it was sad, really. Threw out two nice Technics receivers, but both used the $60 custom Technics chips. I can't get $35 for the receivers, even when working. Portable 1983 vintage VHS machines... 2 of them... toast! Mono Sanyo Beta machine... outta here! Smile

Though some of those items may be a piece of history, they should probably remain that way, so far your list of stuff thats "otta here!" is well worth tossing in the dumpster!!

I know what you mean when you say its sad, I have a hard time throwing any electronics away, but thats the way it goes sometimes....

Moment of silence for the Beta machine. Sanyo Beta's, eats tapes like nobodies business. Laughing and had Mono to boot. SO it ate them slowly.

I don't think donating or recycling crap that's clogging up my life is sad at all. when I come home and see a nice, clean open space where there used tot be piles up crap I just feel better. Sometimes it stays that way for as long as a week Laughing

lmao, I would have to agree with you there draganm, I have loads of stuff coming in and out of my house all the time, If I kept everything I liked, I would be living outside the house Very Happy

Its pretty hard to keep a nice open space around when you do this stuff on a daily basis Confused

Besides I only keep stuff I actually use, so far I have to say that works out pretty well, I only have 20% of unused electronics Laughing
