|
|
Last night I turned my 9PG Xtra on to go ahead and watch some TV, about 5 minutes after powering on I noticed that the horizontal deflection started having some issues.
All 3 colors were moving left to right. They were not freaking out all over the place like I've heard some peoples projectors do, and after a few minutes it warmed up enough to normalize back to where it should be.
My question is, is this the famed Toshiba transistor on the horizontal deflection board of all NEC PG projectors? This projector is in mint condition physically and aesthetically, but I know as parts get older they break down.
If it is the transistor I have a couple brand new Toshibas here so I could throw one in, I just wanted some expert opinions before I started.

Nope, transistors either work or don't work, not somewhere inbetween. Clean the H yoke connectors on the deflection board with Caig contact cleaner. That should do it.

Curt, that eliminated the problem, thank you very much!! It was the first issue that had occured since I got it, so I am glad it wasn't a problem part
Thanks a million!

Mine does this when the weather is humid. Not nearly as bad as it used to though.
I noticed today when i turned it on it was going quite blue, thought i was losing the red but it seems more like the red was just dimming down abit.... I think the Gain CTRL board may have had the dick in mine...
Also got some issues where a small bright object will cause a darkened line across the screen in line with it.... That has only started today also...
Lots of fog here past could of days...

I have to say the 9PG Xtra is a fine machine, I only wish my XG was as silent as the Xtra.
I dont suppose any of you would know of a good replacement for the XG fan? Otherwise I think I saw a mod topic for it on here somewhere...

Be glad to live in the US... the 220-240V version PG xtra has two more fans in the power supply. As much as I can recall I found the XG as loud as my PG xtra...

Lmao Chip.
Gjaky, Would that mean that my fan on my deflection board for the XG1100 could be going bad???? Its the loudest fan in the XG, if unhooked the XG sounds as loud as the PG Xtra, but otherwise it sounds like a dying giraff
I bought a fan for it a while back, and although it was the right dimensions and electronic specifications it wouldn't work, so I tested it outside of the XG and it did work...
I just dont want to buy another replacement that doesn't work with the XG

Well, I have that two extra fans, I don't know if the European XG differs from the US type.
I don't know the fan wiring in the XG but I know that the PG xtra fan pinout differs from the PC type fans, if you are interested I can tell you how to rewire.

lmao! thats too funny, maybe your PGX has bad fans? my PGX has around 400 hours on the tubes and chassis, nothing like hearing new fans

I guess to me its quieter because in the back of the basement where my rack is, I have 2 24 port 3Com network switches and an HP Proliant server running so the projectors are pretty hard to hear in the first place, but the PG Xtra is much quieter than the XG in any case, as for a Marquee I've never gotten the honor to see one in person so I cannot say

After looking at this 9PGX with just an amateur set-up it actually looks really good. I would run it in my HT if need be. The P16 tubes and stock HD-145 lenses give it an edge over the typical high hour marquee or Barco with 180 tubes and HD8 lenses.
You really need a pristine low hour or modified marquee 8 inch with Moome card to beat it .Did I just say that
