I've been lurking here for bit. There's a projector here for sale locally that I'm interested in. Unfortunately the owner knows very little about it; he bought a few years back in a surplus sale, but never completed the home theater room and consequently never used it.

I would like to look at the phosphor wear, but I don't know where to begin. Is it necessary to remove the lenses to do so? Is it difficult/complicated to do? I'm handy but not brilliant.

Thank you

I should mention what it is: Marquee 8110+

Yes, you'll have to remove the lenses to get a better idea of wear. Also a Flashlight is handy to shine into the tube to help see it, but if you need a flash light to see the wear then its a pretty good tube. Wink

I'll add, get an LED flashlight. It shows the wear better

Ok, thanks for your input. I'll be sure to have a led flashlight with me!

About removing the lenses, is it straightforward? Or do I need a step-by-step?

Thank you!

Depends on the pj. The Sony G90 uses silly little brass philips head screws. The Barco 808 required a metric socket set with extensions to remove the lenses.

best way to determine wear imo is to project (if possible selbstverständlich) a 100ire full white field and select one color at a time.
make your raster as big as possible, this means 4:3 ratio.

True, but may not be practical if the pj is down and there is no screen to project onto. A good eyeball over the crt faces with the lenses off will tell you everything you need to know regarding phosphor wear and burn. Won't tell you if the tube is any good output wise though.

Thanks for all your input. Unfortunately, someone else beat me to it.

There is another pj I found locally, and I'll start another thread for that!

yup, and 8110+ indicates a 1996 marquee with possible filament voltage problems and dead tubes.
They dropped the + designation later on. Oh and a marquee AC lens requires a 5/32's hex bit driver, not a Phillips like other PJ's.
