So i recently obtained a sony 1030q1, I know this is not the best machine, but everyone has to start somewhere and I want to squeeze the best resolution out of this thing possible. I have an HTPC hooked up to the projector via a custom cable I made following instructions off a site I found. Currently the max resolution i have been able to get synced up is 640 X 480p. I am using powerstrip to output that resolution. 640 X 480 syncs up and runs perfect for hours but i cannot get any resolution that is 16 X 9 to sync up, even when my horizontal scan rate is less then 31.535.

So I can get 640 X 480 to sync, running at the following specs in powerstrip:

Horizontal:
scan rate 31.535
active pixels 640 @ 25.369 us
front porch 8 pixels @ 0.317 us
sync width 96 pixels @ 3.805 us
back porch 56 pixels @ 2.220 us
total 800 pixels @ 31.711 us

Vertical:
scan rate 60.067
active lines 480 @ 15.221 msboth
front porch 2 lines @ 0.063 ms
sync width 2 lines @ 0.063 ms
back porch 41 lines @ 1.300 ms
total 525 lines @ 16.648 ms

I will settle for a 4:3 ratio if that is all this pj can do, but i would really prefer to build a 16 X 9 screen and output at a resolution with that geometry to get the most used lines out of my picture since most of movies I have are some version of a widescreen resolution. Every 16X9 resolution i try on the pj will not sync up and just jumps vertically on the screen, i have tried as low as 768 X 432 and the image still jumps.

I was thinking this may have to do with the fact that the custom cable i made outputs both the H and V sync both to pin 3 on the RGB connector, is this correct?

Also one last thing to note is that my video card does not support composite sync or sync on green in powerstrip.

Those will do 1080i, and there is no reason why you wouldnt put in separate sync. Why would you want to use sync on green or combined sync in the first place??? Your computer wont put out composite sync cause this is sync taken from composite video, such as used in a SCART connection, and is not the same as combined sync, which is H and V in one, or RGB-S.

The connection should be RGB-HV, it should be a 15pin plug to 5 BNC plugs. The computer will put out RGB-HV standard, cause that is what they do. The projector had RGB-HV on the front, as you know, and this is the same input as the computer has output.

Try 1920x1080i at 25Hz, or 30Hz, i dont use powerstrip cause it isnt needed for nVidia cards, they have a simular adjustment as part of the drivers. In the nVidia screen it will show 30Hz for an interlaced image that is 60Hz, if you know what i mean.

Watch it, some of those set's can't do 1080i and they have no over load protection for too high a video signal. You can damage it.

Try 720x480 that's NTSC video DVD resolution.

The 1031 CAN do 1080i, it scans to 36kHz.

At the very least, the cable he says he is using is not the best for the job, it should be 15 pin RGB to 5 BNC, i dont see any good reason why you would try to use anything else considering this is what the computer puts out, and this is what the Sony projector takes in.
