This should be interesting but likely pricey in the near term at or around 55 inches......

The Sony 25 inch

Interesting...... That would solve a LOT of issues.

I see SONY has theirs out.... actually same as the LCD was. Pricey for US, not the TV stations. They paid $26,000 for the 32" HD monitors. I STILL work on those monsters!

Funny, the last thing I read on OLED is that it was dead in the water technology. I think that was last year sometime.

Don't have any spare 32" CRT 16:9 Sony production monitors there do ya Marc?

I'll ba happy when the best LED's have come down in price a little more. When I can get a decent price on a 65 inch back lit LED with local dimming........I'm on it and the beastie is gone.

When I finally make the move to digital, most of the support wiring and ALL of the adapters and work arounds will be gone.

There's a huge thread on this over at AVS...the only problem with the predictions in this article is that, as of right now, neither Samsung nor LG has even begun to build a fabrication line that could put out 55" OLEDs in large quantities, and their current fab line can pump out a max of somewhere around a 20" or 30" OLED, and doing so is still very expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see OLED become cheap, reliable, and large, as it would easily supplant LED LCD and plasma in terms of PQ, but this is just another example of industry hype. I'd love to be proven wrong though Smile

I can occasionally get one, but why would I? You need a forklift to move it!!!

Every time I have to work on one of those wretched beasts we realize why they have 4 big handles. Besides, most are dying of capacitor rot. SURFACE MOUNT capacitor rot.

If you can find an E-waste scrap yard and make friends with the owner, you can probably get one. I see pallets of them here.

Wasn't that SED? That technology would have been a CRT enthusiasts wet dream. Shame they killed it. The prototypes were phenomenal. OLED looks like a poor 2nd division technology in comparison.

I'm familiar with SED, but I have never seen an SED display - what about it made it look better than OLED? I thought the OLED display on my Samsung Fascinate was outstanding, it is hard to imagine improving on it.

What year are these monitors you are working on? I guess a better question is how long before cap rot? My Sony CRT monitor is 11 1/2 years old. I am wondering if I should be worried or if I have a few good years left.

Oh... a computer monitor..... scrap it when it dies. Not worth re-capping.

Replace it with what? Most of the CRT monitors are getting close to that age.
