[also posted to the hdfury site forums]

I've been using an HDFury3, via an hdmi switch to my Runco DTV 1101 for awhile now and decided to upgrade my audio receiver (wanted better audio, simplified setup for video/audio switching, etc) and now I'm having issues...

Seems like I'm having decode/sync issues as I have no picture/audio...the blue light on the HDFury does not come on and the audio will come in and out for a couple seconds at a time. Once in a while, after a few mins, things will get in sync and the picture/sound works.
I'm guessing the issue is with the hdfury and hdmi sync/decode - to verify I removed it from the setup by connected a small tv (with HDMI input) to the output from the receiver and everything works as designed. I can switch between inputs without any issue, power on/off at will…works as you'd expect.

Source Inputs: HDMI from source into pioneer receiver
- AppleTV (second Gen)
- Tivo Series 3
- Sony Blue-ray Player

Output: HDMI from receiver into HDFury3 to DTV 1101.

Prior to the new receiver, all 3 inputs were connected via a HDMI switcher (5/1 from mono price) to HDFury to the projector and working correctly, could switch between sources, etc...

I am usually able to get it to work (picture & audio) if I first bring up the receiver setup menu [remote: receiver, home] (or other receiver menu such as h.m.e) first and then switch to a different source.

Anyone out there got a setup like this to work? I'd really like to keep the new receiver but not if I can't use it with my projector.

Just try the old HDMI switcher first again to make sure you don't have a bad cable. Check with Denon for software updates as well.

Hooked things back up via the hdmi switcher (bypass video on receiver) and all works.

I'm able (about 75% of the time) to get things to work by going to the pioneer home menu then switching to the tivo input...

I checked for the latest software from poineer - have the latest installed.

I'd try a different receiver.

The thing is, the receiver outputs video/switches perfectly when connect to a native HDMI TV...I'd rather not buy another receiver if I don't have to.

This is very similar to my issue: http://youtu.be/bQZmte2U3ZQ

I said try another one, not buy one! Smile

HDMI is a very flaky signal medium. What works with one monitor may not work with another one.

Sorry, no got.

I am serious though, check online with ALL of the problems ever posted about HDMI and incompatibility. It's ridiculous. I'd say even though the signal format has been around for about 6 years, it's only really come into its own in the last 18 months or so.

Generally the Fury has been OK, and since it works with your old switcher, the issue is with the receiver, even though it works with another monitor.

From what I've seen, success with HDMI depends on the order or sequence of when each device is switched in to connect source to display. What I mean is that you need to (1) turn on the display, (2) switch the displays input selection to HDMI, (3) Switch the AVR or switcher to the desired source, (4) turn on the source device. That way things are setup for the source device to handshake with the display right away.

In your case it could be that the old switcher kept the HDfury active by giving it signal/power over the HDMI cable but your receiver is only activating the Fury when it switches. If that's the case, plugging a power supply into the Fury might keep it alive so it's already active when the receiver switches.

Thanks. That sequencing of power-on sometimes works with the bluray player as it is in an off mode when not in use. Not the case with Tivo given that it never really turns off (for dvr functions)...

The Fury is connected with the supplied power port. When using the fury via the hdmi switcher the blue light does go off when not in use.

Tonight I'm going to try going out of the receiver to the hdmi switcher to the hdfury to see if that helps at all.

From the receiver to hdmi switcher to hdfury doesn't seem to make any difference...

Wondering if a product like the Gefen HDMI Detective Plus would solve my problems??
