Hi guys
PLEASE SEE THE SECOND POST DOWN
ok so when Im doing the installation setup procedure, I get to the raster centering section. It explains on screen that it will increase the brightness so the raster is visible, and then I am to center the green raster first followed by the red and blue.
Problem 1:
I press enter to begin the centering process and then instead of the green raster being lit up, the red and blue tubes light up (both together, even though it should only e one at a time) and when I press the left and right arrows on the remote it moves the red raster, which does not correspond with the instructions which say the green one is first. Furthermore when I press enter again, it moves onto the next procedure, and skips the green and blue tube adjustments altogether.
Problem 2:
So as many of you would know, I can also access the raster centering option in the guided set-up mode, and this actually works for all three tubes BUT I cant get the blue one all the way to the center, in fact it runs out of adjustment range while it is still partway off the right edge of the tube face! So Im really stuck because I know that having the raster off the edge of the crt face will damage the tube.
So why cant i get the blue one centered? Does the adjustment done in the installation mode give more range than the guided set up mode does? Do I need to tweak a dial or pot somewhere? And should I be worried about the first problem I described with the installation mode not behaving correctly?
Thanks in advance for all your help. I just spent 4 hours hanging this thing from the roof last night and Im a bit worried about the blue raster!

Heya curt
Your knowledge and quick response is awesome! I have just tried this and have fixed the problem, so thanks heaps for that. But now i have a new question:
Having centered the rasters, how do I now shift the blue image horizontally within the raster? the trouble is I run out of adjustment range on the blue convergence with the blue still way out of alignment with the green, and the green test pattern is nicely centered on the raster and tube face. The closest i have gotten so far is the phase shift but that moves all three colours together, which is obviously no good to me.

You can't. The 'phase' control in the geometry menu shifts the image on the raster, but it shifts all of them. I've never had a set where the image on one tube is way off on the raster compared to the other ones. H phase is a global adjustment, not a 'per tube' one.
Once the raster is centered, you need to swivel the tubes via the 4 bolts that hold them in place. THe green is fixed, you don't move it, but the two bolts (8mm) over top of the R and B tubes, and the long slot blade screwdriver shafts beside each tube that go down to the bottom of the chassis loosen up (don't take any of the bolts out!), and you grab the lens, and swivel it side to side.
BTW, the first thing you want to go is go through the 'installation' menu. Once you get to the '+' sign in the middle of the screen, that's where you align the R and B images to the green one. If the horizontal line is offset, go back to the V board and tweak the R and B trimpots to bring the horizontal line over the green one.
That should align the three tubes.
then you can go into the 'random access' menu and start with geometry. That affects all three tubes, but that sets up the green, as that's your reference, and the R and B tubes align to whatever you've done with the green.
Also, use the 'genlocked' test pattern, and ALWAYS have a live video signal going to the set while converging and aligning. If you don't, or if you use the 'internal' test pattern, the set will lock to a random memory out of the 38 in the set, and chances are good that it's not the same memory that you've converged to, and you'll lose all your settings.

Just followed the bit highlighted in bold and it is now aligned. It was so easy! I was thinking that I would need to do something along those lines but where I went wrong was the manual refers to adjusting the red and blue tubes, which I thought meant I had to somehow adjust the crt itself, whereas your instructions refer to the lens itself and so thank you for making it so much clearer for me!
I'll swing you a donation for all your valuable advice mate You previously helped me with my sony 1270 too. how do I donate?

Cool, glad I could help!
At the end of each tech article in the FAQ section is a 'donate' button...
