I need pretty precise directions if at all possible. I am looking for a variable resistor RV 101.
ANY help is appreciated.

Isn't the B board on the G70 the one that has the RGBHV connections? Can someone please verify me on that?
Thanks,
craigr

well THANK YOU that helped alot, I found the B board and have it removed(mostly) but still fail to locate RV101.
I am not an engineer and if I ask dumb questions its because I am.
That being said I am assuming the right side of the schematic is on the FLIP side of the board. Namely the B with an A circled.
On stand off about an inch high is another board BA
As I can find nothing on the board that says RV 101 I am assuming it is on the downfacing side of this BA board.
before i disassemble these boards any comments ?
Thanks in advance and type slow as I am not electronic literate.

ARe you about to screw up a perfectly good working set? IN all the G70s I've worked on, I've never had to adjust RV101. I don't know where it is, or what it does, but it sounds like you're about to cause problems for yourself.
Just sayin'.

The idea was to MARK the setting turn the adjustment back and forth to POSSIBLY remove debris, Then set it back to the mark and re install.

Yeah, Jeff is having a strange issue with what seems to be the AKB circuit in his G70. JohnHW and I think that rocking RV101 may help if the trimmer is at fault...

Curt , You are probably right I am in over my head.
I could just learn to deal with it but it bugs the hell out of me.
I was hoping this might solve the problem. I was going to PRACTICE on my parts machine first.
It ONLY flashes in 16:9 mode and only in darker scenes, but it makes my OCD brain crazy.
I was hoping to solve it .

OK gotcha, I think Craig and I talked about that when we met. I haven't run across that before, so if you have a second set (does it do the same thing?), then play away. I just thought you were getting into an area of screwing the set up after you've had it calibrated.
BTW, if BOTH sets do the same thing, then I'd suspect a source/scaler issue rather than both sets doing something that Craig and I have never seen before.
Cheers!

measure it and replace with a fixed resistor. (keep the pot in case of emergency)

I will check the Denon tomorrow to see if that is the problem. The BD SAT and OTA all do it in 16:9
and they all run through the denon.
I will get back to you guys tomorrow.
THANKS !

Did you try swapping the B-board from the second G70? Be careful not to set any ofthe boards down on carpet or cloth and touch somethign metal before touching a board.
I think Curt can repair B-boards too?

Guys, guys... My G70 did this too and I've seen where others also had the issue. I bet you're running 1080p, aren't you Jeff?
The issue has something to do with the timing/porches with 1080p... Screws with the AKB control somehow. When I had the issue, it would only happen on certain scenes and on certain BD's, and only when running 1080p... Switch to 1080i, and it would go away and never come back.
It seemed to be mostly related to scenes with low overall APL, but with lots of dynamic range. For instance, the pulsing was horrible on the Dave Mathews/Tim Reynolds Radio City BD... Low APL, but high dynamic range because of the lights and especially the reflections off the guitar bodies. I don't remember who it was, but somebody else with a G70 even had the issue show up big-time with this specific Blu-ray.
I think it was Cliffy that said he thought was because something was wrong with my setup, but I tried a full from-scratch setup the way he recommended, but the problem was still there.
The fix for me was simple: I turned off AKB (ABG on the Sonys). I boosted G2 to compensate, re-calibrated, and I've hardly touched it for at least 18 months. The only thing I ever touch is turn up brightness a little and lower contrast a little to play games, then I return it to the previous settings before I shut down.
Put the G70 back together, turn off ABG, re-calibrated black level, and watch movies in 1080p without brightness pulsing. Problem solved.
2,
SC

Steve, Thank you for the input. Yes I am running 1080P. Craig Rounds calibrated it and the PQ is amazing, Now I know why you went to 1080P. Also I took your advice from awhile back and moved my seating up to 10 feet away I didnt think I could handle being so close but You were right, Now I cant imagine being furthur back.
There is an issue with the ABG on my PJ, craig could explain it so that you would understand the situation, I dont think I could. I just dont have the knowledge you guys do.
Turning it off is a big deal, I dont know how else to say it.
I was really glad to hear from you, I have an idea I am going to try, I will post how it works out. In the meantime maybe Craig or Curt will chime in and explain the ABG situation.
THANK YOU.

Jeff, going off of SC's idea do this...
Turn off akb and then raise the brightness in the user menu to get the black level to the same point at which I set it in the service menu with akb turned on. If you don't have the DVE BD get it Jeff, and use the test pattern for black level on the disc (or other well regarded test disc).
Yes, Jeff's set has something wrong with the akb circuit and I could not get enough brightness out of his unit by my normal preferred calibration method with akb off either. I usually like akb off, but I made an exception for this case. I don't know if Jeff can get enough brightness out of his G70 with akb off, but it is worth a shot.
