Hi All

I recently purchased a barco graphics 808s, the description on ebay said it cuts out after anywhere between 5 mins and 4 hours. I have so far not been able to get it to stay alive for more than about 3 mins!

Right heres what happens:

Projector powers up i hear the crackle on the tubes, i get the menus etc then after about 3 mins of playing with the raster or anything else the tubes cut out. The rest of the machine is up and running. If i then put it in to standby then back on again i hear the crackle of the tubes again but no picture at all. If you have the room dark you can see a faint glow from each tube in the respective colours.

If i then leave it for a good few hours unplugged it will then power up again fine for about 3 mins.

THe filaments on the tubes are all lit, there are no red leds inside unless i disconnect the video source then i get the standard no source led lit.

I have so far, removed and reseated all boards, checked the 17v and adjusted it to exacley 17v as it was 17.29v and also adjusted the Deflection pots to full clockwise to make the raster smaller.

Any advice would be appreciated as im really looking forward to getting this working.

Im very new to CRT projectors but my electronics knowledge is good as well as my soldering skills and im willing to have a go at anything!!

Thanks in advance

CHeck the red light on the EHT board. I'll bet it comes on. If so, one of the three HV components is bad:

-EHT board itself
-quadrupler
-HV splitter

Best advice I an give if it's on is to send me the quad and EHT board for testing. If they check OK, then I'd send you a splitter. You can't do any testing short of swapping out parts at this point.

Definitely no red lights on any board!!!

I've heard that the capacitors can go bad on the smps would this cause the problems I'm having??

Is it worth swapping them?

Cheers

No. There's a fuse on the EHT board, check that. A bad quad can blow the fuse and nuke the EHT board. Bad caps on the SMPS will not cause a no HV condition.

This is where I look like a complete fool!! I have found the dreaded red light and yes it's on the eht board!

In my defence I was trying to look at the board from the rear vent and couldn't see anything then I realised that you can see the led from the top! Lol

What are the next steps do I need to send it in curt?

No worries, it's a stupid place to put the light!

Follow the instructions in the link above.

Thanks!

Still send the quad with it. Either could still be bad.
