Well here it is so far.
There is more to do but it does work.
Excuse the cables they are a mess at the moment and for the keen eyes there are no CPC magnets as yet,

I think Spatz called his project the 809 it was a while back and there was talk of someone doing this with a 1208 but I was wondering, how will you converge the picture, the 808 is quite slim for 9 guns whose tubes will probably have to hit the edge of the chassis just to get a sensible sized screen wouldnt they? Interested in how this works and what parts you have used as I have a 808s and some 9 tubes spare! Are the tube electronics all 1209s parts etc?

Why not just cut a window in the side of chassis to allow for the swing of the tubes?

One of the reasons I chose the 1292 tubes was because the housings are small and the mountings make the tubes fit close together. As you can see from the pictures the LC tanks don't fit inside the 808s chassis but the neck of the tube and RGB amps do and there is JUST enough room for the tubes to swing about 99% of full swing to converge the image.
All of the electronics are from an 808s or retroblock and all of the mechanical bits are from a 1292. The only parts I had to manufacture are the long bolts that run from top to bottom holding the tube mounting together. These needed to be a little shorter than the original as I removed the lower aluminium support used in the 1292 as it lifted the tubes too high.
As far as the outer case is concerned thats a work in progress at the moment I am playing around with the original 808s case. Work commitments have meant there has been no time lately to finish this.

You could do that but I was hoping to keep the airflow system originally designed for the 808s removing the sides completely would change that.

Good on ya!! nice to see some real tweaking. how are you going to stabilize the cross brace to the chassis? those lenses are heavy.

Right now its braced with two metal straps. You can see them in one of the images that shows the rear of the tubes. The straps are in the center. I am looking at adding two more on the outer edges for stability. The base of the tube frame is screwed into the 809s chassis.

Update
I had to go to plan B as the tube support system I was using was just not firm enough and would have allowed movement possibly effecting focus on red and blue. I have attached some pictures of the new setup for anyone that's interested. The Lenses are HD-10F from G90. Now its all together I need to dial it all in which will probably take longer than the construction job.
I would say though that apart from the long bolts that run from top to bottom holding the tube mounting together all the parts are from the BG808s and Sony 1292. Which was an objective.
Oh I still need to construct a cover which I think will be a one piece unit that simply drops over the whole unit. More Pictures when that's done.

This looks really great, just wondering though, you have a Barco 1101 as well? if thats the case could you not have used the shell of that and stuck everything in there? or did you want to just use the 1292 808 parts? just wondering how close you will get to 1209s performance with this setup keep us informed!

The 808 chassis will not fit into 1101-1600 shell. While the shell is wide enough at the front the rear of the 808 is completely different and too wide and high so you would need to chop out some of the shell which I am looking at as I am using the top of the 1101 shell as a cover at the moment. The 808s and 1292 seemed a logical progression for me. I wanted to move from ES to EM and I had already modified the 1101 with 808 parts and since I had quite a few 808 boards I just kept moving down that path. I am not certain about performance comparisons but the BG808s is capable of 1080p and so is the 1292 so this should be no problem.

I have a 808 GS as well, great projector, thats whats led me down this path, I blame you guys I am now stuck with 3 of these monsters,
I wonder if you could silicone mould a shell..........
