Seems like the last batch of convergence chips that I got for the G70 were counterfeit. Worked fine here for 3-4 hours, but crapped out at the customer's place.
I've heard of this, and have had bad transistors in the past, but not chips.
Seems like the tsunami in Japan has wreaked havoc on semiconductor manufacturing in Japan. I have no choice but to source them from China.
I've ordered more, but need to test run the crap out of them before I let any more repairs out the door. This sucks, both for me and the 3 customers it's affected.

curious, what modern day application do these chips have?
no point in counterfitting if you cannot sell.

The counterfeiting was done when these chips were in high demand. And so many were made that they are still in abundance.
