OK, I'm back from vacation. 8959 Km (5530 miles) in 13 days. Saw too much, stayed too little.
So as I'm driving through Yellowstone, through all the parts I didn't see last year (and still have lots to go see there), I thought of this idea, and I figured someone with enough $$ could do this. I saw incredible amounts of wildlife and scenery, so I came up with this:
Mount a 4 head/lens, 360 degree motion stabilized HD camera (s) on the roof of a car. Have each camera pick up exactly 90 degrees of viewing angle. Simultaneous pan/tilt and zoom would be optional. Record to battery powered synchronized hard drives.
At the playback end, have 4 CRT projectors shoot a 360 degree pix 'in the round', with the seating area in the middle. Do some edge blending so the seams aren't seen. Curve the screens so they mate up exactly.
That way, you can have a theater in the round so to speak.
Now, if 360 degrees can't be done with 4 cameras, how about 240 degrees, or something so that the front screen completely fills your field of vision.
Have at it, let me know when it's done.

Attached is the solution for the camera part. All you have to do is take care of the mounting and playback. If you have ever been to Epcot they have this 360 degree theater in Canada, China and the Noreigan areas.

I love this idea. But wouldn't it be even better with 4 x 3-D cameras?

No, because I can't process 3D, therefore I don't care.

Sounds like a good idea. It would probably look really good on outdoor scenes like a national park.
I don't really care about 3D either. It looks like 2D/3D debate his mirrored the CRT/digital debate from the early 2000s. Get back to me in five years and I may be ready for 3D.
