would it be better to adjust gamma on a runco 1101 through the maintenance controls or use a device such as hd fury 3 with gamma correction?

The Runco 1101 doesn't have gamma adjustment like you want, neither does the HDfury3.

I use this myself: http://www.curtpalme.com/RTC2200.shtm

Hey Kal. Thanks for the info. I've been looking at the gamma x also. it's a little more affordable and look a little simpler to set up. i currently have an original hdfury at the projector via a hdmi (dvi) cable running from a hdmi switcher.

Any of them will work. I like the RTC2200 because the gamma adjustment is a 25-turn pot instead of a slider, so you get much finer control. The slider's much easier to knock by accident.

By the way, the pj does have gamma adjustment, at least according to the maintenance control selection. However, it does sternly state that any adjustments should be made by a trained technician with the proper eq. in red letters mind you.

It doesn't have gamma of the type that you need as I mentioned earlier. It's not a low level black boost as found in the RTC2200 or the GammaX.

My Barco Cine 8 Clone has the exact same "gamma" adjustment as the Runco 1100 since that Runco is also a Barco (it's a BArco 1209s).

I have adjusted this gamma in the projector slightly when doing a greyscale calibration but again, it's not at all the same thing as the low level black boost. It's an advanced feature for users with colorimeters to use.
