Hello friends,
I am going to install a Barco 1208s and would like to know if certain of you have already used this model in 1080p with a HTPC or a blu-ray player. Are the results convincing, in particular in terms of precision?
Thanks to you for your experiences.
David.

I have a 1208, but I believe it uses different tubes than the 1208s so your results may be better or worse.
I have tried many different resolutions and used a very fine test pattern to judge the differences.
Best picture quality is either 1080p@48hz(there is very slight flicker at this refresh rate) or 1080i@48/96hz which has no flicker.
Most of the time I use 720p@60hz because I use it for netflix/web browsing and video games. When I watch blu-ray I switch it to 1080i@48/96hz.
Can you tell a difference in detail between 720 and 1080? Yes, but it is pretty slight. One pixel wide lines do get finer with 1080, but if they are in a bright area, the bloom can cover up the detail. If you use a high gain screen you will actually be able to see more detail because you can turn your brightness down and reduce the bloom.
I would not recommend 1080p at a refresh higher than 48hz because it starts to bleed pretty badly to the right.
I have not tried a blu-ray player with 24p output and don't know what the refresh would be. If higher than 48hz, forget it. If it's 24hz, forget it.

Thank you very much for your complete answer.
Effectively tubes are not the same between 1208 and one 1208s, nor between the various versions of 1208s ( Sony or Toshiba tubes) but I'm not sure that it has an influence on the possibility of having ''better 1080p''...
In any case, I think that it is more pleasant to viex 1080i in 96Hz than 1080p in 48Hz.
For the Blu-ray player, I don't still know if I shall use one or if I shall read ISO images from an HTPC.
Thanks to you.

Well - there are some differences between early and later type Barco chassis,
I have spent a lot of time working with them - you may discover that you get
decent results at 1080P 60Hz. It does help with set-up to be able to adjust video
timings/porches with a PC or scaler.

Thank you for your intervention zGman.
It would be great if the 1080p in 60Hz could give good results!
As soon as the 1208 is at home, I shall test it with a PC and with a scaler (Optoma HD 3000).
Bye.
