|
|
Well it's taken longer than I thought but it finally happend. My first ebay purchase gone bad. I guess my previous success is partly luck but mostly doing my research. If I buy something in the "not operational" or "has issues" state it's only after researching the issue completely and feeling comfortable that it's something I can deal with. Anyway, I was looking for a Sony DVP-CX777ES 400 disc changer to go along with the Escient media server I bought. I missed on local on CL for short money and have not seen on reasonable since. I have the service manual for the ES as I had planned to SDI mod it before I put it into use. A few weeks pass and up pops one on ebay for short money that powers up but shows a error code (C:32:00). "32" is usually caused by a disc jam and "00" tells you that it detected the problem and shut down the power. After removing the obstruction, the error code remains until you manually clear the code. You need the manual to tell you what buttons to push to clear the code. COOL, I probably won't even have to fix anything. Plug it in, clear the code and hope for the best. Right??? Nay nay mofrair. Problems right off the bat. First the seller wouldn't ship it to my confirmed address (PO Box) and refused to ship it to my physical address as it was not a "confirmed address". That's a first for me. No one has ever refused to ship to my physical address as long as they got their money. After many emails back and forth I gave him my phone number and asked him to call me so we can settle it. Two days later I get the call and after fifteen minutes of pissing and moaning (both ways) he agreed to ship it USPS priority mail If I paid the extra $19.00. Just to put this behind me I said OK, I'll paypal the money when I get home from work. Done deal right??? Not exactly. On the way home from work on Friday, I make a pit stop at the PO and there it is. A big honkin box just waiting for me. I take it out to my service truck and open up the box just to make sure there is no obvious shipping damage.
YeeHaaaa this sucker looks like brand new. So I go home and have dinner and then out to the truck to carry in my new toy. I carry it right into the theater. Put it on a table, plug it in and press the power button. Perhaps I didn't press it hard enough.Hmmmm, perhaps I didn't press it long enough. OK D.O.A. I'll give him the benifit of the doubt, pop the cover and see if something detached in shipping. Holy crap, someones already been in here, tried to fix something, gave up and just stuffed it back together. Half the molex connectors were disconnected, missing screws and bent brackets.
The only thing this player was displaying was dust. I'm not going to say who the seller is until he has a chance to make things right. It's a biz and they are closed until Monday. They did have multiples of these for sale and they must have sent me the wrong one. So much for this weekends theater project
Bottom line there was no chance in hell that this was running at their shop. The power supply and second transformer were not even plugged in along with a couple of other board molex connectors. After reconnecting everything it was still D.O.A.

It's the Sony that's dead. The Escient is working.

Anyway Mac, I know the power board is trashed. After double checking all the connections and the fuse on the power board , I performed the test outlined on page 6 of the service manual. I pulled "CN201" and jumped pin 1 to pin 11 on the board to power up the supply. No voltage on any of the pins. That's probably as far as I should go with it until I hear from the seller. What a shame as there isn't a blemish on it.

Did you buy my Escient stuff a few weeks ago? I sold a video and audio unit with mouse and keypad for nothing.

Yea, but what caused it to go and what else is wrong. I want the one I paid for with the C:32:00 error.
Even if it just needs a disc table adjust ment you have to scope it. But that's OK. The manual shows you exactly how to hook it up and check/adjust it using a scope. I like pictures

Don't worry about that. You can fix it, I know
Once I have picked up a Kenwood A/V reciever which had been recapped -at least that was free.
All the boards were disconnected, the capacitors which had been replaced were totally different value/voltage (of course lower) than the original ones, some of the caps even missed. The "service man" used some kind of acid to solder, so the PC board looked like someone vomited it. And the best part was that one of the secondary coil of the main transformer was shorted. After two days of working finally I had a shiny working A/V receiver

If you don't ship to confirmed address buyer can dispute charges and will win since there is no seller protection. I would never ship to unconfirmed.

Yes I could never figure why anyone would worry as the seller gets paid before shipping and is shipping on sellers instructions.

You can file a SNAD (significantly not as described) complaint with PayPal. You'll be on the hook for shipping it back to the seller (which may or may not be worth the cost) but you will get a full refund including outbound but not return shipping I believe.

Because with PayPal and credit cards the buyer can do a charge back or claim fraud and if not to the confirmed address the seller is out the product and the money. If to the confirmed address Paypal takes the hit and makes the seller whole.

Well I'm going to give them the chance to salvage their "5 star rating" first. The seller has a few of these 400 disc changers in various condition. The one I bought was supposed to power up and display a "C:32:00" error code.
The one that showed up is not the one I bought. It was D.O.A. The power supply was toast. Someone already tried to fix it, gave up and stuffed it back together leaving all the plugs disconnected. They were closed for the weekend so all I could do is leave a phone and email message. I am going to call this morning after 9:00 AM and speak to them about it.
I'm going to ask them to plug in the remaining ones they have and look for the one that powers up with the "C:32:00" error code. I did not get that one so it should still be there. This sucks. I paid $75.00 + $53.00 shiping for one that should have been a easy fix. I spacifically chose the one I did based on the error code displayed.

If it looks minty new I would keep it, there is probably a very good chance it can be repaired. I've fixed a few Pioneer 301 disc DVD players and they were all in various working/physical condition. Id love to have a nice minty DV-F07 just to throw my CD's and DVDs in, Currently using a DV-F727 that I repaired. I should note the seller I bought it from had a DV-F07 listed, which was what I bought, when I received it I got the DV-F727 (Non elite version) and was very upset, especially since the face of the unit was cracked in half from top to bottom, and the 2 front feet were missing on the unit as well.
Not what I ordered!! I emailed them as soon as I saw this and he gave me a full refund and told me to keep the unit. He wasn't aware that the DV-F07 got listed since they had none in stock apparently.
At least I got it for free! It was worth it since I managed to fix the optical unit. I will admit though, I have seen other 480p DVD players that looked better (there was some noise on screen) but for $0.00 I didn;t feel it was worth it to keep dinking with it, I really only use it for CDs anyway...
Id keep it if I were you!

I know this is a very old thread:
BUT , I have the C32 error "C32 00" on my DVP-CX777es. The front door opens and closes and then the unit goes into standby. How do I reset the code or fix it? I see from stefuel's pst apparently on needs to clear/reset this code. How do I do it?
All help is greatly appreciated...
