Hello,

A few nights ago my Barco 1209s was working normally.

Today the picture is suddenly very dim: you can only really see it when you look into the tubes.

Apart from that everything appears normal: diagnostics lights are all green, HV is on, fans are running etc. The menus seem more or less normal, maybe just a little bit dimmer. Also the "CONTRAST" message is normal. The brightness and contrast controls seem to be working as expected.

However, when I choose a genlocked pattern, the picture is very dim again.

What can this be? At first I thought "G2", but then I would expect also the menus to be affected.

Actually I went into the G2 menu and it also was quite dim. The leds on the green and blue neckboards are off. The one on the red neckboard is on.

My Barco has new LUGs (just a few 100 hours).

Thanks

Gerbrand

When you go into any menu, there's usually a different brightness and contrast memory setting. CHeck to make sure that in whatever menu you're in, the contrast or brightness isn't set really low. We know that the HV, H and V sections and the tubes are OK since the menus are fine, which really only leaves the two video boards, the quad decoder and the switching board as possible issues. I've got those in stock if you need them.

Cheers!

I turned the set back on to check the brightness levels in the menus. While I was playing around with the contrast setting in the Barco intro screen, the picture flickered a bit and suddenly was back. So for now I am set.

But there is definitely something dodgy going on. Looking back I remember having no picture a few weeks ago, but after turning the source on and off that was solved. So I blamed the source.

Anything I can do to further track this down? Maybe inspect the boards?

I would reseat all boards in the set, along with the white wires that go between the two video boards.

Hi,

I have reseated the boards etc. and for a few weeks the problems did not occur. Now the picture is gone again.

Would it help if I replaced the RGB input board (R762719)? I suspect the switching is not working properly (for instance: when I switch to the "BARCO" screen I do not see anything, but when I switch back to the service menu, the image is briefly visible).

I'd start there. If not, then I'd disconnect fully each CRT video output amplifier (CRT socket) one at a time. THe AKB circuits are on those sockets/video amps and that can affect overall brightness. I had one here the other day that completely shut down all tubes. That's the first time I've seen that.

I would expect anything in the CRT sockets to also affect the menus. Anyway, I will try to find an RGB input card.

Yesterday it seems the issue was promoted from "intermittent" to "permanent".

Since I have not managed to get hold of an RGB input card yet, I tried disconnecting the neckboards (both connectors). This did not resolve the issue, so for now I think I will stick with the RGB input card hypothesis. Or am I missing anything?

Menus are inserted at switcher boards output. That indicates that driver board and neck boards are ok and problem is at switcher board.
