if I get this card for my 1271, would I still need a video processor like DVDO VP50

or would straight out of my DirecTV into 1271 be adequate?

Yes, you would need the vp-50 for proper color.

Why?

The tinted glycol in the HD8 lenses of a 1271 is fairly close to the SMPTE C primaries. Close enough for most people frankly.

You only need the scaler if there's a specific thing you're trying to correct or if you have SD sources that you need scaled up to 720p/1080i. Nowaways most DVD players, all Blu-ray players, and all HDTV boxes have built in scalers. So the scaler is *not* something you absolutely need.

I don't use one myself. My sources are an HDTV PVR for watching SDTV and HDTV, and then a PS3 for playing back DVDs, Blu-rays, and playing PS3 games. Both boxes scale to 720p/1080i/1080p as needed.

I could use a video processor to flatten out my greyscale slighly in the blue low end, but it's pretty minor and not worth it to me.

Moome's HDMI card already has gamma boost which is one thing I feel is needed on all CRT projectors.
