The problem is with HD signals...SD seems ok, and the tuner throws a fine pic...but, when I put on an HD pic through component, what I see is green fringing. One might think it's just convergence...but it's not.
The problem as I see it...is a very narrow blue vertical line. Now, this doesn't show up when doing the internal convergence pattern, but rather on the pattern from a test disc. This narrow blue perfectly explains the green fringing that I see...especially in the vertical parts of white text.
Any idea what might cause a very narrow blue vertical on an HD input? I doubt it's astig, as the 480i input looks perfectly fine.

643HD5...basically the same as the 730 elite, from what I can tell.

Well if your saying you did a full multi point convergence while inputting an HD signal...and it converged fine....... then I would need a picture.

Indeed I did...but the built in grid looks fine. Perhaps the white lines are a bit wide in the vertical, but it is overall converged.
Now, when I put an HD signal in and bring up the convergence patterns, I can see a real green cast to the picture, and the vertical blue line is very thin.
Sometimes this seems to correct itself after a few hours...could that be a solder somewhere??
I was gently knocking the screen back into place the other night, and after that the problem appeared to be corrected again. At least, for a little while. Maybe a loose connection somewhere?

Well solder joints can be troublesome.
Try this. While inputting a 1080i signal and select HD bring up the cross hair pattern. Adjust the red to the left and down as far as it will go. Then adjust the blue to the right and up as far as it will go. Now bring up the cross hatch pattern with the grids all separated and look over the different color grids and tell me if you see any differences in them.

ok...well, that problem seems to have fixed itself. All I did was adjust the G2...and when I was done...that problem was effectively gone. I just don't understand it....
Noticed a new problem....the tv emits a high pitched noise. Does that mean a bad flyback transformer?
